Sinopse
Na Vila de Leva-e-Traz, a descoberta de petróleo leva à criação de uma cidade pré-fabricada, progressista. O vilarejo fica entregue aos velhos e às mulheres. Quando o padre leva a Santa Padroeira para a nova cidade que surge, todos temem a chegada do Diabo...

- The Village of Leva-e-Traz experiences an unprecedented impact when a one-armed man, following the suggestions of a dream, discovers an oil well near a mountain 40 kilometers from town. Quickly, a new city is founded around the well. All young residents of Leva-e-Traz leave the village to work in the new town, including the prostitute, the tailor and the baker. Only the elderly people and the invalids remain in the small village. The problems increase when the Priest also decides to move out taking with him the image of the patron saint of the village. At the same time, an outsider, who can turn himself into a goat and a frog, appears in Leva-e-Traz: he performs miracles and captivates the citzens. Thus arises the next candidate for president, the Devil.
Story based in Cordel literature. Original music by Caetano Veloso, who dubs the Cartola's voice when the character sings. Filmed in Tiradentes (Minas Gerais).
