- El dibuk
El Dybbuk, o Entre dos mundos (Yid. דער דיבוק אָדער צווישן צוויי וועלטן, Der dibuk oder tsvishn tsvey veltn) es una obra de teatro de 1914 del escritor S. Ansky, que cuenta la historia de una joven novia que es poseída por un dybbuk —un espíritu malicioso, que se cree es el alma dislocada de un muerto— la noche de su boda. El Dybbuk, es considerada una obra seminal en la historia del teatro judío, y desempeñó un papel importante en el desarrollo del teatro Yiddish y el teatro en Israel. La obra se basa en el fruto de varios años de investigación por parte de S. Ansky, quien viajó a diversos shtetls judíos en Rusia y Ucrania, documentando las creencias folclóricas e historias de los judíos jasídicos.

El ripper, en KaraGarga, escribió:Rare extant example of Yiddish cinema from 1930's Poland. Based on the now celebrated play by Russian S. Ansky, who wrote it during WWI after conducting an ethnographic survey through the Jewish shtetls of eastern Europe. Beautifully filmed with resonances of early Dreyer and German Expressionism, the film has gained added weight and poignancy through the insight it provides into the soon-to-be vanished world of eastern European Yiddish culture. Its closest modern relative in terms of richness of style and theme is Kusturica's marvellous Time of the Gypsies, which similarly employs magic realism and folklore in its depiction from the inside of a vanishing ethnic minority. A classic in all senses.
This excellent print was ripped from the only known version circulating. from the library of the National Centre for Jewish Film. In Yiddish with English subtitles on print.
