Hace un par de meses descubrí a George Carlin. Me vi el "Back in Town" y quedé tan impresionado que me bajé todo lo que encontré de él. Me vi los 14 especiales de la HBO y alguna cosa más, ahí del tirón. Y bueno, creo que es un genio. Se convirtió en mi cómico favorito, por varias razones, entre ellas:fepe55 escribió:George Carlin era un neoyorquino de descendencia irlandesa nacido el 12 de mayo de 1937. Estuvo en el mundo de la comedia durante 52 años, comenzando en la década del 50 junto a Jack Burns para luego seguir una carrera en solitario que lo llevó al reconocimiento mundial.
En la década de los 60 se caracterizaba por ser un humorista clásico y correcto que hacía imitaciones y componía personajes en distintos programas, aunque principalmente en The Tonight Show, conducido entonces por Jack Paar, luego por el reconocido Johnny Carson y en la actualidad por Conan O'Brien tras un recordado reinado de Jay Leno.
Pero ese personaje políticamente correcto iba en contra de las creencias personales de Carlin quien era, para decirlo de forma simple, un hippie enfrentado con el sistema y el gobierno. Por eso la década de los 70 marcó un cambio radical en sus actos, al igual que en su apariencia. Pasó de vestirse de traje y con el pelo corto y engominado, a vestirse con vaqueros y camiseta, a dejarse la barba y el pelo largo.
En sus shows ya no hacía simples imitaciones, sino que ahondaba en temas políticos y criticaba a la gente para la cual, hasta hacía muy poco tiempo, brindaba sus shows; todo esto, eso sí, mezclado con su clásico humor irreverente sobre las actividades del día a día y el minucioso estudio de las palabras y los eufemismos, tres temas que irían tomando cada vez más protagonismo en sus actos, comenzando en las décadas de los 80 y los 90.
Desde pequeño, cuando arrancó con la comedia, siempre dijo que era una forma de alcanzar lo que realmente quería hacer: actuar. Quería ganarse un nombre en el mundo de la comedia porque luego, según sus propias palabras, "tenían que dejarlo actuar". Pero sus incursiones en el mundo de la actuación –que incluyeron su propia serie de televisión, The George Carlin Show– no hicieron más que recordarle que él era un cómico, que donde se sentía cómodo era en un escenario haciendo reír a la gente, y no en un set de filmación.
Con la llegada del nuevo milenio, en 2001, recibió el Lifetime Achievement Award (premio a los logros de toda una vida) en los premios a la comedia; y en 2008, cuatro días antes de su muerte, se dio a conocer que le entregarían el Premio Mark Twain al Humor, premio que recibieron grandes figuras como Richard Pryor, Carl Reiner y Whoopi Goldberg, junto a varios famosos humoristas como Steve Martin y Billy Crystal.
- Porque entiendo prácticamente todo lo que dice (por eso no me hicieron falta subtítulos).
- Porque habla de temas que me interesan: el lenguaje, la sociedad, el sistema, la vida, etc.
- Porque se moja, porque tiene unas opiniones claras y contundentes, y se puede decir que estoy de acuerdo con él en todo lo que dice. Si alguien quiere saber mi opinión respecto a algún tema político o controvertido puede ver lo que dice Carlin y casi con total seguridad sabrá lo que opino yo.
Voy a poner los enlaces de todo lo que he bajado, con sus datos correspondientes. La calidad de todos los vídeos es similar. Los 14 especiales de la HBO tienen toda la pinta de ser DVDRips, porque no hay logos de cadenas de televisión ni nada raro. Dejo una captura de cada uno, por orden. Tenemos también por ahí un archivo que subió locutus con subtítulos en español para 9 de los especiales: 1977, 1978, 1982, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2001, 2005 y 2008. (Algunos creo que están en español latino). Muchos de los juegos de palabras de Carlin son imposibles de traducir, pero bueno, es lo que hay.
Para mí los mejores especiales son Jammin' In New York y Life Is Worth Losing, pero todos son buenos y muy recomendables. Esos dos simplemente me parecen auténticas maravillas.
