John Forbess es un hombre de familia agotado de su trabajo como ejecutivo de una empresa de seguros. Mientras intenta relajarse en compañía de su esposa e hijo, MacDonald un detective privado, descubre irregularidades en el caso de un estafador al que la compañía de Forbess ha beneficiado. John acaba ayudándole a investigar el caso, y cuando visita a una modelo a la que el estafador hacía regalos, descubre que se siente atraído por ella.

André De Toth dirige esta cinta de cine negro que adapta una novela de Jay Dratler. El film va en la línea de grandes obras maestras sobre estafas a compañías de seguros como Perdición, de Billy Wilder (DeCine21).

The obsessed MacDonald turns the soon-to-be-released boyfriend against Forbes.
