[quote]One of the more valiant members of Italy's struggling indie industry, novice helmer Vittorio Moroni organized friends and colleagues into a DIY distribdistrib company so his debut feature "You Must Be the Wolf" could get onto local screens. Released in eight prints nationwide with last-minute assistance from established distrib Pablo, pic unfortunately plays like a short stretched beyond its limits, although enough good ideas make Moroni a helmer to watch. Breakout chances are slim, but awards at smaller fests (Ajaccio, Lecce) may prompt further enquiries.

Taxi driver Carlo (Ignazio Oliva) was abandoned years ago by depressed partner Valentina (Valentina Carnelutti, "The Best of Youth"), leaving an infant daughter also called Valentina. Now a teenager (Valentina Merizzi), daughter and dad have an intense relationship that barely admits others, including the g.f. (Sara D'Amario) Carlo keeps practically hidden. When the errant mother, back from Portugal, contacts Carlo, he has to reassess both past and present. Stocked with unhappy people barely connecting, pic gives every line too much weight, with great pauses around each sentence. Oliva does glum well, but it's all he's been doing recently. Color quality reflects ultra-low budget.

This engaging, concise drama, set in a scenic small town outside Milan, explores the complexities and difficulties of the close bond between a single man and his daughter. As the teenaged Valentina (Valentina Merizzi) and her father Carlo (Ignazio Oliva) work through a variety of dilemmas partially caused by their overly hermetic relationship, they struggle with the known comforts of their home environment versus the temptations of new discoveries. Throughout, Moroni examines the difficulties of both adolescence and middle age with thoughtfulness and depth.

Thanks for this rip. I checked the homepaga and its nice. THe only problem i guess its that there are few people talking about this film in a personal way..i mean...no godard , no rivette, i mean personal comentaries. Anyway all your rips are wonderfull. But could you please write something personal about this film. I guess that could make it more appealing for others. Not only about the contend, but more about the form. As there are thousand of "examintations of adolescensce"...

Ci provo...vediamo cosa sucede! Qui in Argentina si sono potuto vedere un paio di film italiani inediti ma maggiormente in dialetto, speriamo questo sia diverso.

grazie mille, Trep.
As Bresson said, I could use some personal comments about that film.
