That's the plot and, to quote Dorothy Lamor in this film "That's the plot so far? I'd better hide you.....from the critics!". The plot is, as always, a flimsy excuse for banter between Hope and Crosby. However in other "Road to...." movies the plot has been a little less silly. Here it's daft and too complicated to be totally forgotten about. And unfortunately the banter feels a little tired between the two, the other road movies felt fresher.

And it feels like they know it too - there's lots of tired routines, "special effects!" for one, and they have too many self-deprecating jokes. They're quite funny but after a while you realise that they're just saying it before anyone else does. However there still is much to like here - Hope and Crosby are still funny in a bad movie and some of their banter is still great, although the situations that give them the dialogue are daft.

Hope and Crosby play their characters with well rehearsed ease. A young Joan Collins is OK but comes over as a little over earnest. The larger-than-life Robert Morley plays the cult leader with seriousness and Peter Sellers wins the film with his Indian doctor cameo. There are a range of small cameos, some funny some not - Dorothy Lamor returns to the Road series, David Niven turns up for a few silent seconds and Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra take a gentle swipe at their rivals (although it's not very funny -"special effects!").

Overall this is a gentle comedy that you'll enjoy because of Hope and Crosby. The ridiculous plot takes away from it a lot (did they have to make it quite so silly?), and the musical numbers slow it down a bit. But to be honest, there's much better movies in the road series that this one.

Buenas tardes, Karlugrath: Tengo un problema. Probablemente sea fácil de resolver, ya que soy bastante novato en estas historias. He descargado la película y los subtítulos, pero éstos sólo me aparecen en inglés. ¿Qué opción tengo para poder disfrutarlos en español?

Gracias anticipadas por la respuesta, bien de Karlugrath u otro amigo que me quiera ayudar.

Creo que hay un hilo que te puede ayudar:

Guía para visualizar subtítulos de formato IDX y SUB

De todas formas fíjate si al reproducir la película te aparece una flecha verde al lado del reloj en tu PC. En caso afirmativo pulsa con el botón derecho sobre esa flecha y seguramente podrás elegir el idioma.

Efectivamente, MOMARBA, ésta es también la respuesta que se me ocurre. Con el botón derecho cambias el idioma y solucionado.

Estimados Karlugrath y Xaniox: Muchas gracias por vuestra contestación. Había seguido al pie de la letra lo referente a ficheros idx y sub, pero desconocía el cambio de idioma con el botón derecho. De todas formas lo he hecho, cambiándolo a español y no sale nada. Sí se puede hacer en varios idiomas, pero en otros no (español, italiano, etc.).

¿Se os ocurre algo?¿Cómo puedo previamente saber si el español está incluído en el pack?

Sí, amigo Xaniox y lo he leido. Creo que ya he resuelto algo. Al entrar en el archivo idx, comienza a tratar los idiomas uno a uno, empezando por el inglés (minuto a minuto). Cuando aparece spanish comienzan los subtítulos en el minuto 57 ó 58. Efectivamente así lo hace en la película, por lo que durante los primeros 57 minutos no hay subtitulos en español.
¿Curioso, no? Parece que la solución será buscar otro archivo que esté completa la parte correspondiente al idioma español.

¿Tienes descargada la película para comprobar lo que comento? Sería ideal.

Quedo a la espera de tus noticias. Gracias.

¿¿¿Los subtítulos en español empiezan en el minuto 57???

Caramba, tierra trágame por no haberme dado cuenta. Lo que voy a hacer es descargarme los subtítulos (la película no la he bajado porque tengo el disco duro a tope y es una del gran montón que tengo pendientes) y ver a ver dónde puede estar el truco; a una mala, si esto es así, le dejaré un mensaje escrito a Wolfman en fileheaven para ver si tiene por ahí los subtítulos en español completos.

That's all there is, dude. As I said, the vobsubs seem to have gotten a hit one way or another. in all probability this error was already on the DVD.
Sorry about that - I didn't check out the spanish subs.

Parece que es un fallo del dvd, por lo que, a no ser que alguien se anime a hacer una traducción, tendremos que quedarnos con los subtítulos ingleses o los de otros idiomas si alguien los entiende.

Esta es una ocasión de las miles que se presentan en la vida en que uno se arrepiente de no haber estudiado más inglés.

Fuera de bromas, es una película con muy buena pinta. Es una lástima que no podamos disfrutarla.
