This study of fishermen engaged in dragnet fishing off the coast of Scotland was undertaken by John Grierson as a means of educating young directors in the photographic analysis of movement and in contrapuntal sound editing.

In 1934, Grierson's group was joined by veteran filmmaker Alberto Cavalcanti, whose quirky, avant-garde influence became immediately evident in Granton Trawler and Pett and Pott, a mock morality play. In 1937, Grierson left the GPO and Cavalcanti took charge with the production of the seminal North Sea.. Includes: Granton Trawler (dir. John Grierson), Pett and Pott (dir. Alberto Cavalcanti), and North Sea (dir. Harry Watt).
