Johnny Corncob is the first feature-length animated film produced in Hungary. It's an adaptation of the well known Hungarian poem János Vitéz by Petőfi Sándor. There are no English subtitles, but you may know that Marcell Jankovics is primarily a visual storyteller. His animation is highly stylized, and in this case it seems like the designs of Heinz Edelmann (of Yellow Submarine fame) were a major influence. The film seems to follow the original poem very faithfully, so here is a synopsis (via wikipedia) if you need help understanding what's going on.

Kukorica Jancsi (Johnny Corn) was found abandoned in a corn field as an infant; he was taken in by a peasant landowner, and by his adolescent years, is a cowherd for his master. He is in love with an orphan girl, Illuska, who is being raised by her wicked stepmother. Jancsi and Illuska hope to be married, but the stepmother devises a plot to have Jancsi chased from the village. Dejected, he joins up with a band of hussars, who are en route to France to fight the Turkish invasion there. The Hussars journey from Hungary to France (crossing the many countries in between, such as Poland and India), where they arrive just in time for the battle. Jancsi saves the French princess from capture, and the king in gratitude offers him her hand in marriage and half the kingdom. Jancsi, to the princess’ distress, turns both down; he asks only for some money, by which he may win Illuska’s hand. The king, saddened, agrees, and also knights Jancsi, who becomes thenceforth János Vitéz.

Janós travels back to Hungary (by boat), where he learns that Illuska was worked to death by her stepmother. He plucks the single rose growing from her grave as a reminder. He then sets off on a series of increasingly more dangerous adventures, hoping to end his life in some glorious feat. After defeating a dragon, he gains access to the Land of the Giants, where he kills the king and has all the giants pledge fealty to him. In a dark forest, he finds a coven of witches; as they prepare for an occult ritual, he gathers and burns their brooms, then calls on one of this giant vassals to crush them. As each witch dies, the forest becomes a little brighter, and János notices that one of them is Illuska’s step mother. He himself kills her, lighting up the forest completely.

After several years, János finally emerges at the end of the world, the coast of the Óperencian ocean (a traditional uncrossableocean in Hungarian folklore). He again calls a giant to wade across, and János perches on his shoulder. They arrive at an island after two weeks, which János discovers is the Land of the Fairies. He finds the Spring of Life, a small lake with a swan. He tosses the rose into the center of the lake, and as the swan touches it, they both change into the form of Illuska. Reunited, the two lovers are married by the fairies, who proclaim them king and queen. They live happily ever after.

Un nuevo trabajo de Jankovics, siempre es una alegría inconmensurable :yuju: ... aunque tenga demasiados dialogos y sin subs a la vista -_- ... como eyemohini comentaba en karagarga, Jankovics destaca por ser un narrador visual por lo que leyendo la sinopsis de la obra en que se basa este trabajo animado ( un poema narrativo del mismo nombre, supuesta obra cumbre del poeta húngaro Sándor Petőfi ) no debería haber mayor problema en su comprensión .

.... y hasta aquí puedo decir, que no quiero poner los dientes largos a nadie

Muchas gracias por el enlace, pickpocket. A juzgar por lo que se ve en las capturas, la película tiene no pocas semejanzas estéticas con Yellow Submarine, de The Beatles. Qué pena que no hay subs...

hmm.... yo tampoco la veo .... ahora..... sólo me dio tiempo a tomar prestados unos 540 kb ...
En fin, en peores nos las hemos visto, y además en hungría mismo ^_^
