AMG SYNOPSIS: Now almost forgotten, Warrendale brewed up a storm of controversy when it first emerged in 1967. Canadian documentary filmmaker Allan King takes us within the walls of an institution for emotionally disturbed adolescents. It is the philosophy of Warrendale that the best therapy for the young charges is to allow them as much personal freedom as possible. Thus, the kids smoke, swear and discuss sex in the frankest terms. Though Warrendale was originally made for television, neither the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation nor London's BBC, appalled by the film's scatology and frighteningly detailed therapy sequences, wanted anything to do with this hot-potato property. King arranged for the film to be released theatrically; as a result, Warrendale shared the International Critics Prize (with Michelangelo Antonioni's Blow-Up) at the Cannes Film Festival. Producer-director Allan King later utilized outtakes to expand the film into the 18-part TV documentary series Children in Conflict. -- Hal Erickson

Nació el 26 de diciembre de 1930 en Vancouver, Columbia británica (Canadá). Trabajó desempeñando varios cargos en Europa, hasta que en 1954 comienza a trabajar como realizador en la cadena de televisión CBS en Vancouver. Se afirma como un precursor del cine-realidad en Skid Row (1956), reportaje sobre los mendigos alcohólicos, seguido de una docena de otros documentales de la misma vena. Continúa con el estilo directo en su largometraje, Warrendale (1967), que narra la historia de unos niños emocionalmente perturbados. Continúa ocupándose inteligentemente de las relaciones entre realidad y ficción en A Married Couple (1969). Evoluciona hacia una expresión más tradicional en Who Has Seen the Wind (1977) y One Night Stand (1979). (Buscabiografías)

wow marlowe, muchísimas gracias, he leído muy buenas cosas sobre este documental y le tenía ganas, pero no quería verlo sin subtítulos porque con la captura de sonido en plan verité los diálogos se suelen hacer un poco ininteligibles. Así que mil gracias por traerlo y por el trabajo con los subs. A ver si alguien de patio de butacas nos trae la versión de gigaypico emulizada, aunque esta no tiene mala pinta tampoco.
