Comentario (muy) personal: Digan lo que digan, a mi Solzhenitsyn me parece un escritor hinchado como los cadaveres que flotan días enteros por el mar. De hecho, creo que está tan reconocido porque sus obras ni queman ni abrasan, sólo alcanzan corazoncitos progres dispuestos a clamar contra cualquier injusticia que atente contra sus libertades individuales, pero igualmente prestos a olvidar cualquier crimen de naturaleza económica contra la humanidad.
Dicho esto, los diálogos ofrecen más, mucho más de lo que el Archipiélago Gulag nos dió. Por tres razones: Una, el Solzhenitsyn conversador es más agudo y profundo que el escritor; dos, Sokurov sabe llevar el ritmo por medio del montaje a donde hay verdadera materia de interés; y tres, como ocurre con la mayoría de escritores esencialmente autobiográficos, su vida es más interesante que su obra. En resumen, un diálogo en dos partes (más dos conversaciones añadidas en esta edición) interesante, donde creo que se impone el homenajeador al homenajeado.

This is a two-part video portrait of the outstanding Russian writer, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, author of famous novels about the Russian revolution and the acclaimed study of the Soviet concentration camps, "The Gulag Archipelago". Solzhenitsyn is of more interest to the filmmaker for his attitudes, thoughts and present life, than for his legendary past. Rather than interviewing some important person, Sokurov creates a monumental image before our eyes.
This remarkable portrait shows us the inner world of this great author whilst his outer world is seen merely through several visual landscapes: park, study, library, and the room in which the writer’s wife work.
Director Alexander Sokurov interprets the acclaimed writer s life based on two lengthy talks with Solzhenitsyn and his wife. Dialogues is not a straightforward biography but instead focuses on Solzhenitsyn s monologues and his discussions with Sokurov about Russian literature, folklore, history, and language. The result is a portrait of a Russian legend through his own words.
