This Jesus is unrecognisable from that found in the traditional books of the New Testament.

Pete travels through Egypt and the former Roman Empire looking at the emerging evidence of a Christian world that's very different from the one we know. He discovers that in addition to the gospels of Mark, Matthew, Luke and John, there were over 70 gospels, acts, letters and apocalypses circulating in the early Church.

Through these lost Gospels, Owen Jones reconstructs the intense intellectual and political struggles for orthodoxy that were fought in the early centuries of Christianity, a battle involving different Christian sects, each convinced that their gospels were true and sacred.

The worldwide success of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code has sparked new interest, as well as wild and misguided speculation, about the origins of the Christian faith. Pete Owen Jones sets out the context in which heretical texts like the Gospel of Mary emerged. He also strikes a cautionary note: if these lost Gospels had been allowed to flourish, Christianity may well have faced an uncertain future, or perhaps not survived at all.</td></tr></table>

¿y éste de que se rie?

Lo acabo de ver y me ha parecido entretenido e interesante. Hay que ver los viajes de puta madre que se pegan esos presentadores de la BBC con la excusa de hacer documentales. Está hecho desde una perspectiva cristiana guay moderna-anglicana. Es decir, racional con la puntita nada más. No se cuestiona en absoluto las bases de la religión, la fe, la existencia de Dios, etc, no es un documental "ateo". El presentador hace las labores de guía-investigador con el que el espetador se identifica y le acompañamos en su búsqueda para saber más acerca del cristianismo primitivo, los numerosos evangelios y grupos cristianos "alternativos" que existían entonces y que fueron borrados del mapa y de la memoria cuando el cristianismo se convirtió en la religión oficial del Imperio Romano (que no hombre, que era broma, la esclavitud no tiene nada de malo) y la iglesia, finalmente, estableció un canon con el nuevo testamento y los 4 evangelios canónicos. No entra en peligrosas honduras históricas o filológicas en cuanto a la antigüedad, verosimilitud o autoría de los evangelios ni nada de eso. Es un excelente ejemplo de "cristianismo tolerante y moderno", ahora soy racional, zas, doble salto mortal con tirabuzón, ahora hay que tener fe, shazam!, de oca a oca soy racional porque me toca, tachan!, esto vuelve a ser verdad revelada, etc, etc. Pero bueno, es un documental interesante.
