For twenty years Paul Bloas has created gigantic paintings on paper, which he affixes to city walls. His flattened giants are integrated into a site, without ever defiling it, and gradually become prey to the ravages of time, fire, tides, visitors... Clandestinely, Bloas allows us to cross the border between reality and imagination. His physical experience of this ephemeral art represents a deep commitment. For four years the painter lived in Madagascar, the land of his childhood and of his last pictorial intervention, on which he based this, his first film. His painting evolves in a site in ruins, a former camp of the Foreign Legion on the Diégo-Suarez Bay, an isolated and ramshackle area far from human settlement. Through this series of works, now destroyed, the artist casts his eye upon post-colonialism and a culture very distant from our own. Original music by the group Noir Désir underscores the evocative power of this nomadic painter of dazzling ingenuity.
