I will start unsharing these now. I have had them shared for a long time and uploaded at least 15-20gigs per episode so I have done my part.
I will unshare the files in episode order and keep track on the people who started downloading before I wrote this (30 july 2003). When I see that all chunks for episode 1 are completed or available from someone else I will unshare that file and so on. So you better download them in episode order and share with each other or you will risk not getting all chunks/episodes.
With a little luck someone else will keep them shared for some time. But I will not reshare any of these so don't ask me if you can't find sources. And be aware that you may not be able to finish the whole series if you start downloading today.
The Onedin Line (1971) (DVD)
Beginning life in 1970 as a one-off Drama Playhouse presentation, The Onedin Line was a typical piece of BBC period costume drama that the corporation have so often excelled in. Telling the story of James Onedin (Peter Gilmore), a 19th-century ship's master from Liverpool, whose burning ambition was to own a fleet of sailing vessels, the original production opened in 1860 as Onedin inherited the smallest part of his late fathers estate -just £25.00. With his windfall he purchased a three-mast schooner by the name of the Charlotte Rose, and set about building his business empire. However, as part of the purchase agreement Onedin agreed to marry Anne (Sheila Allen) the daughter of the ships former owner, Captain Webster (James Hayter). The series followed Onedin's career (accompanied by the his faithful Captain Baines -Howard Lang-) as he hopped from boardroom to bedroom to briny sea, along the way remarrying twice. Years after his first wife (Anne Stallybrass in the series), had died giving birth to his daughter, Charlotte (Laura Hartong), James married Letty Gaunt (Jill Gascoigne -later to star in the ITV crime drama The Gentle Touch), but she died too, and by the end of the series run James was married to a Spanish widow by the name of Margarita Juarez (Roberta Iger). The series ran for nine years (taking the Onedin saga up to 1886) and also gave early TV appearances to Jane Seymour and Kate Nelligan. Location filming was shot off Charlestown and Dartmouth in Devon and the series stirring theme tune was Aram Khachaturyan's 'Spartacus'.
Many authentic sailing ships were used in the series, but perhaps the "star" was the Soren Larsen, whose graceful lines dominated the latter episodes. A working ship until 1972, it was restored by the Davies family from a bare hulk in 1978, has become something of a maritime icon and is still working for its living. Even though this is a surprisingly good series it's not exactly targeted at the Kazaa-generation. I doubt that it will be one of the most downloaded on the net. So there will never be a huge number of sources for this one. Therefore it's very important that you, who do download it, keep it shared with good speed and priority. If everyone helps resharing then it should be no problem getting it out. If not then you will have to wait a very long time for the next DVD. I will not release it until the first one is well spread.
The Onedin Line was made back in the early seventies so the quality of the source is not up to date. It's much harder to compress an interlaced, noisy, unsharp and unstable picture than the high-quality picture you find on new movies and TV-series. But it definitely turned out viewable.
This series has been re-cut into 170-180 minutes episodes. I have reluctantly (there should be a law saying that everyone should own a DVD-burner) done the rip to fit each DVD onto three of those old CD-R discs.
