La primera (y muy confusa) historia narraba como en un extraño planeta se ofrecen sacrificios a un tentacular monstruo de apariencia lovecraftiana. Un humanoide vengador intentará destruirlo por todos los medios...
La segunda, basada en un cómic de Bruce Jones (y protagonizada por él) cuenta la paranóica peripecia de un tripulante espacial en una estación de servicio. Cabe destacar la presencia de la modelo Karen Gilbertson, muy conocida por los corbenadictos ya que Rich la fotografió para In Deep, La trilogía temporal, Den 1, Pilgor y los dos Ogres.
Las críticas en general fueron negativas, muy negativas. De la primera historia no gustaron el diseño del monstruo (a todas luces un muñeco) y el ritmo cansino de la narración (quizás sobraba la mitad del metraje). Para los que dispongan del imprescindible libro Viaje a la Fantasía cabe señalar que Tower of Blood está basada en el cortometraje (en pleno rodaje en 1981) The Creatures of the Box y que algunas escenas acuáticas de Relief Station pertenecen al cortometraje Mondo Amore. Por otra parte, dicho libro explica que Relief Station se había abandonado por problemas técnicos.
Pero sí gustaron la segunda historia, la animación stopmotion de algunas de las criaturas del planeta y algunos efectos especiales marca Rich.
Considero que es una película atípica, pero con más de un momento fascinante. Teniendo en cuenta que se filmó con un presupuesto prácticamente nulo y con actores aficionados (de hecho, son el propio Corben y sus amiguetes), el resultado es más que aceptable. El problema es que quizás los fans se esperaban una cinta de animación y no una con actores de carne y hueso (y sin una línea de diálogo).
Por cierto, la edición de 2000 cintas se agotó en tres meses.

There is only few ads of this video. Corben says in his web page, "The edition of 2000 sold out within three months of release".
Teaser add in Den [III] #7 (1989) says, "It lurches! It lurks! Look out! It's after fresh meat! It's from... THE DARK PLANET".
Ad in Den [III] #8 (1989) and in Den [III] #9 (1989) are similar, but in #8 upper pict is negative and in #9 positive. Add says, "Unearthly terror stalks the creatures of THE DARK PLANET, a Fantagor Video. The Dark Planet, an anthology, including Tower of Blood and Relief Station on a world many light years away, sinister forces threaten members of an Earth base. A huge tentacled horror from the Tower of Blood eats natives and earthlings alike. A primitive challenges the beast to avenge his murdered mate. A space cango jockey returns to the Relief Station and confronts the strange attendant and the master computer."
Ad continues, "This live action program with special effects and some clay animation was produced over a perioid of several years by Richard Corben and Bruce Jones. Regular readers of this comic know these two are intimately familiar with the complexities and subtleties of visual storytelling."
Richard Corben Art Book [#1] says on pg 60, "I've made many amateur films since [grade school]. A couple years ago, I decided to put some of them together in a package for small scale marketing."
