The Notorious Concubines (1968)
(AKA - The Concubines)

Cast: Tomoko Mayama, Shikyoku Takashima, Juzo Itami

An old beggar staggers along a dusty road towards a ruined village. Noticing men on horseback up ahead he hides in the undergrowth and watches intently while the soldiers interrogate and torture a young man. When the soldiers eventually depart they leave their victim stripped naked and hanging from a tree, the beggar quickly approaches and cuts the rope. Holding the dying man in his arms the old man is appalled by the brutality and drips water into the man's mouth to try and revive him. As the man struggles to stay alive the beggar begins to tell a story...
