In London in 1885, Doctor Bernard Hichcock carries out illegal experiments to bring dead tissue back to life, managing to produce a powerful drug capable of inducing a comatose state. Eager to test its potential, he administers a massive dose to his wife Margaretha, who dies as a result. Wracked by pain and guilt, Hichcock leaves town, only to return twelve years later, having left the tragedy behind him and remarried: his young wife Cynthya is a former patient whom he treated for a serious psychological disorder. She accompanies her husband in his scientific research. However, plagued by terrifying night time hallucinations, Cynthya collapses again in a state of madness, convinced her husband intends to poison her. While the woman is looked after by Doctor Kurt, a family friend, Hichcock discovers to his amazement that Margaretha did not die all those years ago as he had believed, but was tragically buried alive: indeed, she is the one responsible for the nightmares afflicting poor Cynthya, whose blood she now seeks in order to regain her lost youth. The mad doctor, still in love with his first wife, decides to help her in her diabolical plan, to the detriment of his poor wife, whose only chance of salvation lies with the kind-hearted Kurt.

Amos Vogel writes about this movie in his wonderful book "Film as subversive art"!

I found that one accidentally. Only one full source and no leechers. Let's change that!

I've seen this movie many times, absolutely recommended, a little jewel, very daring in the way it handles its subject (for the time it was made).
