Poetic pioneer of science films, Jean Painlevé (1902-1989) explored a twilight realm of vampire bats, seahorse, octopi, and liquid crystals. Painlevé made more than 200 films in collaboration with his life-partner, Genevieve Hamon - most of them in bug-eyed wonderment at the curiosities of natural history. Painlevé's astonishing documentaries witness a genuinely 'magic realism', which continues to enchant audiences around the world.
The son of a French Prime Minister, Jean Painlevé (1902-1989) was a man of myriad talents. Though considered a minor figure in cinematic history, Painlevé was the director of more than two hundred science and nature films and an early champion of the genre. Advocating the credo "science is fiction," Painlevé scandalized the scientific world with a cinema designed to entertain as well as edify. He portrayed sea horses, vampire bats, and fanworms as endowed with human traits - the erotic, the comical, and the savage - and in the process won over the circle of Surrealists and avant-gardists he befriended, among them the filmmakers Sergei Eisenstein, Jean Vigo, and Luis Buñuel.

I think this is not a film by him but a documentary which was ripped from arte. By the way I was always curious about his surrealist science fiction films, with this may be we would see some excerpts from them. Thanks auess for your great attention.

Yes, it's a little documentary about Jean Painlevé and his works, with many his film excerpts in it, but still very interesting.
I hope somwday "the films of Jean Painleve" would appear, its soundtrack was made by Yo La Tango, one of my favor band.
