In order to erase a certain level of blindness you have to pervert things that are from a mainstream´s perspective ideal. This attitude can of course not be found in widely available mediums (Where in the mass the foolishness lies- so the “assumption” comes that not the individual is perverted but the world he lives in) .
Speaking of the medium film in a similar vein as Georges Bataille, Alberto Cavallone,… the center of discussion here is the film “Subconscious Cruelty”. The filmic absynth starts with shots of a desolate, rotten city and a dead dove wrapped in film. During this you hear a female voice saying that in this world films and music are a kind of escapism which is doubtless true (especially from a mainstreams point of view while in the musical underground it looks a bit different speaking of the extremest form of audion expression in the shape of black metal) After this introduction we see a naked woman lying on a table, her face covered by anonymous hand with a red cape.
One hand with a scalpel makes a cut in her belly and taking out an eye while you can read that the left brainhalf is the passionate, creative source while the other half the logical and rational- as we see later the left brainh is in very strong dominance leading to strange behaviours where fierce brilliancy is linked with lunacy: The main protagonist here is a man who is obsessed by the the creation of life watching his sister how she lies in bed (and sleeping with her). He comes to the solution to be the ultimate god through perverting the creation of life, this has of course to be to kill. He studies books about pregnancy and then in the shocking end he takes the knife and makes the final cut..He holds the bleeding baby above her face while the blood drops on the screaming face of his sister. If this scene hasn’t alienated many people then the last segment would be another test. While it is in this segment not especially pointed out- it contains very strong religious (sub) context- the creation of mankind spawned by god.
Life and therefore sexuality and the strong link with death (especially in a christian context) are a strong obsession for writer Georges Bataille – therefore this (anfd of course the last segment) can be described as very “bataillesk”. The birth itself is shown in a kind of “reversed sexual act” but the true perversion is during the killing of creation. In the second “pagan”segment we see a group of naked people lying naked on the earth in extasy. One smears himself with oilffrom a hole, another woman sucks on a wooden stick. During this segment that can be also seen as a kind of “music video” (there are no dialogues just the visuals with music) The music has the strongest part. We see then a woman holding a knife between her legs and a man sucking on it with a bloody mouth- this shot lefts room for many interpretations.
The last segment features Jesus Christus personally (credited as martyr) infront of a church as if he is begging for help in his agony while you hear the church bells ringing. In agony suddenly he gets captured by three demon like femmes who bring him inside a building and start to mutilate him, ripping flesh from his chest, licking a wound on his knee and pissing on him (bataille would be proud!). Before this act of total blasphemy you see on a jesus statue with a projection of a swastika on it
.. All in one summarized “subconscious cruelty” is for the “rest of us” alienating strongly the mainstream. A truly excellent film and in the same time a perfect proof that the filmmaking presents is not only for morrons reserved.
