El mismo año que Robert Rossen estrenaba The brave bulls, llegaba a Hollywood otra visión del mundo del toreo, de la mano del realizador Bud Boetticher: Bullfighter and the lady. Primera de las dos incursiones del inminente director de westerns en el subgénero con ambientación taurina (o cuatro, si contamos dos documentales posteriores), el filme fue producido la compañía de John Wayne (Batjac), quién, tras consultar a su amigo John Ford, optó por eliminar unos 40 minutos durante el montaje final (al parecer el famoso director Irlandés sugirió la idea de "aligerar" la película ante la posibilidad de que la productora no la estrenara en los circuitos comerciales debido al elevado metraje). Gracias a una iniciativa de la UCLA, se ha podido recuperar el metraje original de 124 min. y remasterizada una nueva copia gracias a Olive films.
