Un mes después de acabar el rodaje, Bogart falleció por un cáncer de garganta. Tal vez por esto, "Más dura será la caída" ha pasado a la historia. Pero la última película del mito Humphrey Bogart no necesitaba este duro golpe para hacerse un hueco en la historia. El film es de por sí, una gran obra de la época.
A pesar del sufrimiento que padecía, Bogart consigue una gran interpretación. Humprhrey Bogart ocultó a todos su enfermedad y trabajó en unas condiciones lamentables, lo que demostró su gran profesionalidad en esos difíciles momentos. No mucho tiempo atrás Bogart llegaba seriamente tocado a algún rodaje junto a su amigo John Huston...
Quien destaca sobre el resto en esta gran película es Rod Steiger. Está inmenso, y sus duelos con Bogart son lo mejor de la película. El personaje de Toro Moreno es simplemente inolvidable, pobre desgraciado.
