Un grupo de mercenarios sin escrúpulos debe acometer la misión, pero les toca soportar un oficial británico al mando experto en cuestiones petrolíferas, para darles un toque de formalidad. Los modos de hacer del capitán Douglas, que se sujeta a una disciplina y a un concepto del honor y del juego limpio, chocan con los de Leech y sus hombres, gente con muchos años en la cárcel, para los que todo vale, y a los que sólo mueve el dinero.
