Argumento:
Tragicomedia sobre las vicisitudes de una familia de clase media-baja de una ciudad industrial inglesa en la que el padre de familia pasa de estricto a tiránico. La negativa a comer un arenque por parte de su hija hará estallar una auténtica crisis familiar. Protagoniza el gran James Mason que por aquellos años alternaba sus papeles secundarios en superproducciones de Hollywood con papeles protagonistas en los últimos coletazos del Free Cinema inglés. Con él una jovencísima Susan George algo menos morbosilla de lo habitual.
