Leaning heavily on violence to ostensibly deliver a pacifist message, this standard drama by Philip Leacock looks at the problem of teen gangs from a slightly different angle -- these teens are all wealthy. Everything starts off when aerospace engineer Walt Sherill (Alan Ladd) is accosted and severely beaten by a group of young punks. The victimized man decides to hunt down the thugs on his own, at first just for curiosity and then increasingly for vengeance. His actions spark retaliatory measures, and before the credits roll, the body count is elevated by a few more victims in what amounts to nothing more than a blood feud. In the end, justice of the legal and politically correct sort makes a token appearance.I was very surprised with "13 West Street". I found it both believable, and well-performed. It's amazing to see Alan Ladd's character correctly identify his as a "hate" crime. The way the director makes us (and the characters) think all teenagers are members of the five who attacked Mr. Ladd was nicely done.

The successful older man coming to terms, perhaps, with his increasing vulnerability is a great film subject. Ladd seems to understand this, and it becomes part of his performance. His physicality (whatever real health concerns he is having) is successfully incorporated into his performance.

Ladd's younger "trophy" wife really cares for him, and is unsure how to handle the unfolding events. Rod Steiger is great as the police detective assigned to the case -- watch how he turns over the newspaper when he confront the bartender. There are a lot of nice little touches like that -- from the director and/or performers… watch all their little mannerisms; they all fit the characters, and add to the believability.

There are more unexpected, and riveting, events. Are they implausible? In a 1962 film, perhaps they seemed so, but the decade ended with crimes and criminals significantly more "implausible". Accepting the situation is believable, there are some flaws which keep this from being a perfect film. I would have preferred "Chuck" to be a Charles Manson-type psycho, and could have done without the "Teenage Terror" angle. There are also some necessary "budget" restrictions.

They made the absolute most out of the budget they had, though. Highly recommended

Los subtis los he elaborado a partir de una copia encontrada en el emule (TVRIp con subtis incrustados en amarillo), los cuales he descincrustado y pulido (añadido de guión en los diálogos, desdoblamientos líneas, errores gramaticales, retraducción, etc...aunque preserva el toque latino).
Gracias también a Bribobmac en Karagarga por la copia. El susodicho tvrip aparecía acreditado a Goofy así que gracias a él caso ser el artífice original de la tradu...o whoever. Enjoy.

Me apunto ahora ya que ha ya hay subtítulos. Muchas gracias por ambos, película y subs.

Aprovecho para (re)publicar el DVDRip.x264 que aporté hace bastantes años (ver post inicial del hilo), incluyendo ahora los Spanish subs que felipemarlou (muchas gracias) elaboró a partir de un ripeo (acreditado a Goofy) que encontró en el emule con subtítulos incrustados, de los que "desincrustó" y "pulió" enormemente los Spanish subs.

Por mi parte, solo he corregido mínimamente y reajustado también ligeramente los excelentes subtítulos de felipemarlou y los he incorporado al DVDRip.x264 que compartí ya hace (casi ) 8 años.


Respecto a la calidad de ambos ripeos, no creo que haya diferencia significativa respecto al DVDRip.XViD, aunque, en todo caso, debería ser favorable al DVDRip.x264 .
