Sola en casa.
El mismo año que rodó la mítica Taxi Driver a las órdenes de Scorsese, una jovencita Jodie Foster -que por entonces contaba con 14 años- protagonizó este inquietante film, a medio camino entre la intriga y le terror. La actriz interpreta a Rynn Jacobs, una niña, despierta e inteligente, que vive sola en una gran casa alquilada a las afueras de un pueblecito americano. Apenas sale a la calle y la poca gente que entra en contacto con ella no es bienvenida. En la casa parece no vivir nadie más que Rynn aunque ella dice que su padre está por ahí... Tras el misterio se oculta un horrible secreto.
El film, con guión escrito por Laird Koenig a partir de su propia novela, ofrece ante todo una portentosa actuación de Foster, una verdadera niña prodigio de la interpretación. Aunque el aire rancio y poco original de las escenas han hecho envejecer la cinta, en general está rodada con cierta maña y mantiene el interés hasta el final (
DeCine21).

A new danger to Foster's well-being looms in the form of pedophile Martin Sheen, who schemes to place the girl in a compromising position. AMG Review: An interesting little oddball chiller about a young girl (Jodie Foster) who lives alone with a dark secret. Social workers and all manner of concerned adults stop by to find out why no one ever sees her parents, and much of the film is spent exploring her daily existence bearing the burden of this subterfuge. Of course, many of those who come to visit her never leave the house again, and it all seems to have something to do with whoever - or whatever - is in the cellar. Martin Sheen, in a quietly chilling performance, plays a strange young man with an unusual interest in young girls who stops by to hit on her every so often. Foster is superb as usual, and this is the perfect film for those interested in contemporary scares without buckets of scarlet. -- Robert Firsching
