That's really rare stuff - Polish avant-garde. Only 3 films by Franciszek and Stefania Themerson survived. Here there are. The first one is a small masterpiece.

There used to be a thread with all the links wich Laurística kept updating averyday but I can't find it no more.
In the upper right corner, there is a scroll down menu with the option Elinks ZXZ Undeground, but there's only one

I completely agree with Trep. Please, wait until these films and Hans Richter´s spread.

It was Nalekh, but I understand he stopped doing that because it´s a hard work and a bit useless.
If everytime a new thread is open, we write as subject the name of the director, the film and the year; then, reading all the threads´titles in the ZXZ forum and reading all the links´titles if they were in a single thread take more o less the same time.

Vamos, q aunque era Nalekh el que se ocupaba de eso, la verdad es que lleva mucho trabajo y tampoco tiene mucho sentido. Si cada vez q alguien abre un nuevo hilo, especifica en el asunto el nombre del director, de la película/corto y el año, lleva el mismo tiempo leer los títulos de cada hilo en la sección ZXZ, que leer los títulos de los links si estuvieran dentro de un único hilo.

The Adventure of a Good Citizen /Przygoda czlowieka poczciwego NEW PRINT

Year: 1937
Nationality: Poland
Format: 16mm
Duration: 8 min


This film was lost during the war. One print was found somewhere near Moscow and sent to Film Archive in Warsaw. The print was old and badly battered. Hence the quality of the present reduction from the original 35mm to 16mm is not perfect. But it could have been worse.

There are two sentences spoken in Polish. At the beginning the CARPENTER shouts to one of the two men with a wardrobe: "The skies won't fall if you try and go backwards!" This is overheard (over the telephone) by THE GOOD CITIZEN (a civil servant) who also decides to try and walk backwards. In the street, he collides with TWO MEN WITH THE WARDROBE, and now it is he and one of the other two who carry the wardrobe backwards out of the town and the forest. A group of people (representing a cross-section of society) march with banners to demonstrate against the walking backwards. Inscriptions on the banners read: DOWN WITH WALKING BACKWARDS! THE SKIES WILL FALL! EVERYBODY FORWARD MARCH! &c. The Polish words heard by the end of the film mean: ONE MUST UNDERSTAND THE METAPHOR, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. - S.T.

...he hecho unos subtítulos para la película (aunque se quedan dos rotulos al pricipio sin traducir). A ver si álguien se curra una traducción, que son solo 6 lineas, venga.

This ZXZ forum became so big that I couldn't continue with it. It was impossible. But if we all follow the instructions to make posts, with the author, name and year of the stuff in the title, the forum will be comprehensive.

Vamos que fue imposible seguir con aquello y lo borre. Apoyo lo que se comento en el post fijo de como poner los links y titulos del hilo, para facilitar la navegacion. Cualquier nuevo intento de clasificar y datar este, ya, megaforo, sera una quimera.
