Castle on the Hudson (1940), “remake” de 20,000 years in Sing Sing: El mocetón en tandem, otra vez, con la versátil Ann Sheridan.
Frase memorable de Joan Crawford: Bad manners, the infalible sign of genius. Luego otro gran trabajo: Force of evil (1948), film noir de Abraham Polonsky. Colabora con John Huston en We were strangers (49), tensa historia de revolucionarios cubanos donde Jennifer Jones lleva un nombre que no tiene desperdicio: China Valdés. Under my skin (1950), basada en My old man, relato hípico típico de Hemingway.
