Mother Goose And Fairy Tales (Ray Harryhausen, 1949-53) VHSRip VO

Mensaje por llonguet » Mié 05 May, 2004 21:52

Buenas,
Os pongo aqui el e-link de este ripeo propio (de DVD, pero la calidad es tipo VHS), indispensable para cualquier seguidor del trabajo de Ray Harryhausen...

RAY HARRYHAUSEN - Mother Goose And Fairy Tales

From 1949 to the mid '50s special effects genius Ray Harryhausen
began the project of animating several of the classic children's
stories from Mother Goose. Originally it was his intention to
make them individual stories, each about 2 to 3 minutes in
length. He secured help from his family in making the films.
His Father devised the wooden armatures used for the puppets
while his mother helped create the papier mache bodies as well
as create costumes for them. She also helped Ray with the sets.
After animating, Little Miss Muffett, Old Mother Hubbard, The
Queen Of Hearts and Humpty Dumpty, Ray decided to combine these
stories into one featurette and created an opening segment
involving Mother Goose. After the stories were combined, Ray
began work on MIGHTY JOE YOUNG with Willis O'Brien. After Mighty
Joe Young Ray returned to the Fairy Tales series since his
MOTHER GOOSE STORIES proved to be very popular with schools,
churches and libraries all over the world. The other stories
were based on more traditional tales from Aesop to the Brother's
Grimm. These included LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, HANSEL AND GRETEL,
THE STORY OF RAPUNZEL, and THE STORY OF KING MIDAS. Ray began
working of another tales based on THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE, it
promised to his most ambitious children's story but only a few
scenes were shot and the project never completed. Ray had
discovered that it was taking much longer to animate these films
than he originally thought and he really wanted to begin working
in feature films. Today these films are a reminder of much more
innocent times, the stories are beautifully told with narration
since Ray wanted to avoid dialogue for the puppets. Many will
remember the films from the grade school years.

Produced by Ray Harryhausen
Associate: Fred Blasalif (Harryhausen)
Costumes: Martha Reske (Harryhausen)

Mother Goose Stories

The first in the series, MOTHER GOOSE STORIES presents four
classic stories wrapped around by an introduction with Mother
Goose. The stories include LITTLE MISS MUFFET, OLD MOTHER
HUBBARD, QUEEN OF HEARTS, HUMPTY DUMPTY. This is the only film
in the series that does not feature narration, instead the words
to rhymes scroll across the screen as Ray's three dimensional
animation process tells each story. Originally there were
intended to be separate films but with a running time of 2 to 3
minutes each, they work much better in this featurette format.
Throughout the entire series the associate credit is listed as
Fred Blasalif (Ray's Father using his mother's maiden name for
screen credit) and Martha Reske (Ray's mother using her own
maiden name for screen credit). The puppets have no dialogue
saving on animation time, instead Ray created several different
heads for the models for extreme facial expressions and then
would use an 8 frame dissolve from one expression to the next
giving the illusion of movement for the change of expression.
All the films were released through Bailey-Film Associates.

The Story of Little Red Riding Hood

Released in 1949
Animation: Ray Harryhausen
Associate: Fred Blasalif
Costumes: Martha Reske
Narrator: James Matthews
Photography: Jerome Wray
Recording: Cinesound
Produced by Ray Harryhausen

This ten minute feature was Ray's first project after the
completion of MIGHTY JOE YOUNG. It was made during his
experimentation with his planned dinosaur feature EVOLUTION.
Though not listed in the credits, Charlotte Knight wrote the
narrative for this 10 minute featurette. She was living in New
York at the time and was a actress/director/writer and good
friend of Ray's. The entire story was developed by mail. His
father helped him the armatures and props and once again his
mother created the costumes for the figures which Ray designed
and constructed. Typical of Ray focusing on a target audience,
the nastier bits of the original story are eliminated. The Wolf
does not swallow the Grandmother whole and the hunter does not
gut the wolf to free the grandma. Like all of the films in the
series, this is a charming adaptation of a classic children's
story.

----------------------------------------------------------------
The Story Of Hansel And Gretel

Released in 1951
Adaptation: Charlotte Knight
Associate: Fred Blasalif
Costumes: Marthe Reske
Narrator: James Matthews
Photography: Jerome Wray
Recording: Cinesound
Produced by Ray Harryhausen

With each progressive story, the animation for the series became
more complex and interesting. This one opens with a shot of the
cottage with animated birds flying through the foreground. This
is a delightful adaptation of the children's story that
eliminates the wicked step-mother. The witch is a genuinely
frightening creation for the series.

----------------------------------------------------------------
The Story Of Rapunzel

Released in 1951
Narrative: Charlotte Knight
Associate: Fred Blasalif
Costumes: Martha Reske
Narrator: Del Moore
Produced and Directed by Ray Harryhausen

THE STORY OF RAPUNZEL was filmed almost simultaneous to THE
STORY OF HANSEL AND GRETEL with a slightly altered witch making
a return visit. Ray chose this story because he was fascinated
with the concept of the tower and the long flowing blond hair,
though he later commented that the subject was actually a little
mature for it's intended audience.

----------------------------------------------------------------
The Story Of King Midas

Released in 1953
Narrative: Charlotte Knight
Narrator: Del Moore
Costumes: Martha Reske
Associate: Fred Blasalif
Music Editor: Walter Soul
Produced by Ray Harryhausen

THE STORY OF KING MIDAS proved to be the last completed film in
the series. Like all of the short subjects, this one is
delightful and is filled with nice animation touches. Ray's
original intention was to make 15 to 20 of these films but
during the making of THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE, Ray realized
that it would take far more time than he was willing to commit
to see the projects all the way through. During the recent
documentary that was broadcast on AMC (THE HARRYHAUSEN
CHRONICLES) some of the footage from THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE
was shown. It appeared, from that footage, that it might have
been his most ambitious subject for the series. With the
conclusion of KING MIDAS Ray was more than ready to move into
the feature films again and that would be realized with THE
BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS.

¿Qué extraño no? Pincho para completar Harryhausen. Hay más fuentes de las esperadas. En torno a 16.
