Sinopsis

Wang viaja a la provincia de Yunnan, a un pueblo perdido en las montañas. El frío es rotundo, la aridez una evidencia. Wang se dedica a seguir la vida de tres hermanas: Yingying (10), Zhenzhen (6) y Fenfen (4). Las tres tienen características diferentes; por su edad y por los roles que debe asumir, Yingying es el centro de este filme tan seco como amoroso. El padre de las niñas está prácticamente ausente, pues debe viajar por trabajo a una ciudad cercana; la madre es una figura definitivamente ausente: los abandonó. Las chicas prácticamente viven solas, y que su abuelo y su tía vivan a pocos metros modifica poco la dureza cotidiana y el desamparo. Sobrevivir es un imperativo permanente, y la niñez es un estadio utópico para otro mundo.
