Another Greta Snider short

Portland (1996) 15 min, 16mm

Imagen

This film is a documentary road movie about travel, the fallibility of photographs, and the merging of memory and imagination. Three friends, including the filmmaker, rendez-vous in Portland by hitchhiking or train-hopping from different cities. After a week of arguments, soup kitchens, brushes with the law, and bad weather, each leaves with a different memory of the trip, refracted through the tensions and expectations of their triangulated friendship.

PORTLAND reconstitutes the trip in a humorous mixture of footage from the journey (taken with a run-down super-8 camera), interpreted re-enactments, and interviews with the involved parties. The result is a spirited look at independent women and fearless travelers.

Screenings: Toronto International, Sundance, Black Maria (“Juror’s Citation” Award and Tour), New York Underground Film Festival, Olympia Film Fest, Virginia Film Fest, Portland Film Fest, British Short Film Fest, Northwest Documentary Film Fest (“Best Short” Award), Aspen Shortsfest, Taos Talking Pictures, and Ann Arbor Film Festival (“Funniest Film” Award and Tour)

Are you sure there are no sources for those other Snider files? I have all of them up on another computer which is on a T1 connection; and several people, mostly EMULE users, have downloaded them directly from me.

Anyway, let me know. If needed, I will put them up on this computer I am on now.

Peace

I only could download the Hardcore home movie, I cancelled the others files. Could you reshare? There was a lot of time with no full sources.

Thanx for all, Daseinforlorn! :P

I've just completed "hardcore home movies" too, so that's solved, but I never saw any sources for the other two, they always are all red...

these pieces are great, but better rip-quality/resolution
would make them much more interesting...

do you know who's ripping those ones?

Actually, I think the quality isn't bad considering most of these files have come from VHS sources (by way of a Digital camcorder using an S-Video cable). I usually go standard VCD (352,240) because it is the quickest way. DivX/Xvid takes far too much time for the amount of archiving that I have been doing for the past several months.

i don't know what kind of equipment do you use but
with my athlon-xp-2.5 processor I can rip vhs
720x576, DIVX5.0 1500kb/s + interlacing on-fly...

so I just press Play on the video, "record" on iuVCR
(program I use) - and right after that I've got complete AVI file,
- better quality and smaller that MPGs...

you can try it!

I would like to see an example of one of your VHS-rips straight to AVI. So far, I haven't come across a VHS-rip on the EDONKEY network of far superior quality to some of the stuff I have been ripping to VCD. You might not be talking about stuff that I have ripped. I think I have been doing a DAMN good job.

I have been using DvApp to capture to my hard drive (DVD resolution with no frame-loss) from my a VCR via my Digital Camcorder. I have been using Virtualdub as a frameserver (for deinterlacing and resampling the audio to 44100) and TMPGEnc for the actual encoding.

Besides, what is the likelihood that this stuff would have been available anyway?

about greta snider rips - it's just that resolution (312x240),
which is less than 25% of original VHS (720x576 in PAL)
or less than 50% (with deinterlacing) - less resolution
means less details (which are so few on VHS already...)

you can see my on-fly rips like Matthias Muller, FluxFilm,
Dreams That Money Cant Buy... they're smaller or equal
in size (even with Div-X 2000kbs) and have
two times better resolution (720x576) than VCD...

and If you have more time it's possible to do it like
I did with Fischinger:

1. RIP to 720x576 MPEG
2. CODING to DIVX+CROPPING (to get rid of the border and vhs-trash from the bottom of the screen)

of course these are just details...but small improvement
is always step forward,

anyway, you're doing great job, you know it,
