In his memoirs, Elder Bush argued that if "We had gone the invasion route, the U.S. could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land." Sound familiar? In the 1930s, a misguided or just plain stupid Leni Riefenstahl utilized the medium of film to portray the evil power and brutality of the Nazi Regime and Adolf Hitler in her documentary "Triumph of the Will." Riefenstahl portrayed a horrific movement to the fullest, chilling effect. So, as we enter our fourth year of war, I'd like to say two things to President Bush: First, you should have listened to your dad's prediction before jumping to claim that the mission in Iraq was accomplished. And second, your beautiful little propaganda stunt on that aircraft carrier couldn't make the truth of your wrongness disappear."

By taking a stand outside President Bush's Texas dude ranch, Sheehan became the living personification of the frustration and rage that so many Americans felt at Bush's poorly planned, ideology-fueled war. Julia Ward Howe is best known, if she's known at all, for penning the Civil War-era "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Sick of the inhumanity of war, Howe spread the idea of a "Mother's Day for Peace," a day that she hoped would celebrate the inherent peacefulness of mothers and perhaps lead to female solidarity in the face of war and violence. Her version of Mother's Day never really took root and instead America got a Hallmark holiday of exchanging cheaply sentimental cards. So this holiday, as you dial your mom long distance, think about all the soldiers' mothers who won't be getting calls and remember that there's one man who's ultimately responsible.
