thorsten fleisch was born in koblenz, germany in 1972. he began experimenting with super 8 film at highschool where he also exhibited his first film, a super 8 loop (see above). after highschool and community service in an institution for the mentally ill he went to marburg to study art, music and media at phillips universität. one year later he changed to the städelschule in frankfurt in order to study film with prof. peter kubelka. there he started working with 16mm film.

shortly after his studies at the städelschule he made 'blutrausch / bloodlust' which not only got him a lot of attention but also the ann arbor filmcoop award.

since 2001 thorsten fleisch is a member of the board of artistic directors of the international experimental cinema exposition.

he received several grants among them a grant from the filmbüro nw and a grant from the museum of contemporary cinema.

for 'gestalt' he received an honorary mention at the prix ars electronica the number one festival for computer related art.

he now lives and works in berlin.

Acabo de ver Gelstalt, y merece la pena que lo echeis un vistacillo. Se baja directamente de la pag que ponía auess en su post y es bte interesante.
Me voy a bajar un par de cortos más del tipo éste, que parece q promete. A ver si vamos a tener aquí una joyita en bruto sin descubrir.

Yo ya he visto 3 y... la verdad es que no sé si ver más. Superbitmapping es curioso, y tal. No está mal. Pero Gestalt y Friendly Fire... si utilizar un programa que renderice imagenes al azar tiene algun merito... o reunir 1500 imagenes semiquemadas o algo asi (aunque lo ceirto es que aprecen 3 que se repiten con poca variacion) con un chirrido de fondo tiene algun mensaje oculto subversivo que se me escapa...

En fin, voy a bajarme un par mas (los que estan en imdb, Blutrausch y Hautnah), y si van por los mismos derroteros, agur!

I've seen many of these shorts, some are truly interesting. Gestalt has a very strong concept behind: all you see comes from a single mathematical equation 8O its rigor and exactness (the choice to do it in black and white, the slow editing) sets it apart from the usual "chill out" boring computer animations... I recommend checking out also K.I.L.L. (a juxtaposition of endless still images of the same bank building where order slowly emerge) and skinflick.

I completely agree with Trep.

I saw most of these shorts yesterday and some of them deserve a look. I found Kill really interesting too.

Y ahora en Spanish:
No creo q ninguno de estos cortos sean obras maestras ni mucho menos, pero sí que resultan interesantes sobre todo a nivel conceptual y por la intención que hay detrás de su producción.
Yo personalmente hace tiempo que me he cansado del típico corto experimental que se suele postear en esta sección y que consiste en poner juntos 874 fotogramas hechos a base de colorines, manchitas y demás y ver qué sale o a qué se parece. Creo que esa técnica, a nivel visual, ya ha dado de sí todo lo que podía dar y no creo que aporte mucho más.

Sin embargo, este tipo realiza una operación diferente: digamos que en vez de integrar, desintegra. Y desintegra objetos reales (piel, nieve, fuego, papel, edificio, paisaje, luz, tiempo). Descompone la percepción unitaria y homogéna que tenemos de ellos en elementos mucho más pequeños, como si quisiera reducir la realidad a fractales, las texturas homogéneas a extrañas topografías y después todo a una expresión matemática siendo Gelstalt el producto final de esa labor de investigación.

Ojo! Que la mayoría de los trabajos que se pueden descargar arriba son pequeños ejercicios de experimentación y algunos son realmente bobos (como uno en que sale él quemándose una mano con cara de dolor, XDDD), pero detrás hay algo diferente que me gusta, una voluntad de explorar un territorio extraño.

Aunque tb puede ser que sólo me lo parezca a mí... o que es lo que me gustaría que fuera realmente.

Por cierto, al hilo de lo que he puesto arriba, me acabo de acordar de una artista (creo q era mujer, ahora busco el nombre y lo compruebo) de la que vi unas fotografías que me parecieron muy interesantes.

Eran fotografías del agua del Támesis, pero no se veía ni la orilla ni nada, sólo el agua, y al detener en la foto el movimiento del agua parecía q dejaba de ser agua y se solidificaba dando lugar a una topografía extraña sin escala. No sabías si una vista aérea de unas montañas, un plástico arrugado o una foto hecha con microscopio de la córnea de una tortuga. Y la mujer ésta, lo que hacía, era numerar los diferentes accidentes de esa topografía e imaginarse una historia de lo que podía suceder allí.
Era interesante, de esas cosas que se me quedan pululando en la cabeza.
Por cierto, ya lo he encontrado, se llama Roni Horn.

Bueno me he baajdo kill y no esta nada mal, ya me bajare mas, tiene algo que lo mantiene interesante, todavia no se muy bien que es.
