Sadie Benning is a lesbian videomaker who began making videos when she was 15 years old, using a Fisher Price Pixelvision toy camera. Benning's early works were made in the privacy of her childhood bedroom, using scrawled and handwritten text from diary entries to record thoughts and images that reveal the longings and complexities of a developing identity. Evoking in turn playful seduction and painful honesty, Benning’s floating, close-up camera functions as a witness to her intimate revelations, and as an accomplice in defining her evocative experimental form. Her work emerges from a place half-innocent and half-adult—with all the honesty, humor, and desperation of a personality just coming into self-awareness, trapped and uneasy. Her more recent work moves beyond the Pixelvision camera and into animation and film.

While I don't agree with the Cocteau quote, many people feel that the PXL-2000, the formal name for the camera that produces the Pixelvision format, has been the camera that most closely fulfilled Cocteau's thesis. Articles have been written that cite the Coppola quote and Sadie Benning as the little girl that fulfills that idea.

Que por cierto esto me ha recordado mucho a una cosa que oí hace unos meses en una conferencia: se trataba de artistas que habían usado para sus videos una camara que salio a mediados de los ochenta, de la marca Fisher Price que usaba un método sencillísimo de grabación sobre las ya desfasadas cintas de audio (si esas de 60, 90 etc....). Grababa en B/N en una resolución malíssima (aunque mejor que la Game Boy) Y en una cinta de 90 cabían unos 10 minutos de grabación de video y audio.
Lo cierto es que me encantó la idea, pero hasta ver este post no me decidí a buscar información sobre el tema (Hay hasta festivales dedicados a estos aparatitos, que por cierto fueron retirados rapidamente del mercado- quizás temían por las cámaras domésticas de mayor cálidad).

En el Sonar del 96 pasaron esto:

Por cierto si alguien encuentra el elink al film NADJA de 1994 del director Michael Almereyda (que produjo David Lynch) sería un detalle, en esa película se usa la cámara en cuestión para mostrar la visión vampirizada de uno de los personajes en las escenas más violentas (al menos es lo que leí por allí).
