The Velvet Underground & The Psychiatrists

The New York Society for Clinical Psychiatry survived an invasion last night by Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick and a new rock 'n' roll group called "The Velvet Underground."

"The Chic Mystique of Andy Warhol," described by an associate of the painter as "a kind of community action-underground-look-at-your-self-film project," was billed as the evening's entertainment for the psychiatry society's 43d annual dinner at Delmonico's Hotel. And until the very last minute, neither group quite believed the other would show up.[...]
The evening ended with a short talk by Jonas Mekas, film director and critic. But long before that, guests had begun to stream out. The reaction of the early departees was fairly unanimous. "Put it down as decadent Dada," said one. "It was ridiculous, outrageous, painful," said Dr. Harry Weinstock. "Everything that's new doesn't necessarily have meaning. It seemed like a whole prison ward had escaped."

"You want to do something for mental health?" asked another psychiatrist. "Kill the story."

Probably a VHS rip. Anyway it's really a Mekas, after all.

Padre del pop art, gurú de la mítica discoteca Studio 54 y pionero en eso de habitar fábricas abandonadas y rehabilitarlas como loft, así como padrino de Lou Red y su Velvet Underground.
Su vida transcurrió fugaz. dejando tras de sí a miles de imitadores isulsos y carentes de imaginación que previamente han bebido de él en las academias y universidades que los revolucionarios siempres han rechazado y que después, tras el éxito, éstas han incorporado a su plan de estudios.

Vaya, que bien una peli de Jonas Mekas, el creador de The Film Maker's Cooperative. Ultimamente he estado buscando algo de el o de su hermano Adolfas (Hallelujah the hills, 1963) y ha sido una sorpresa ver esto aqui publicado. Gracias Trep. Ambos hermanos fueron, según Jean Mitry, los verdaderos impulsores de lo que se dió en llamar cine underground.

This may or may not be a Mekas' super-8, but anyway it's nothing more than a low-quality ~15min fragment shared by someone interested in Velvet Underground, not in Mekas.
