DivX Clásico

Qué vida ésta, como el año pasado, estoy de vacaciones y me dedico a hacer filmografías. Hoy traigo una a la que le tenía ganas desde hace tiempo. Supongo que el melodrama (estadounidense y/o anglosajón) es mi género preferido después de la comedia porque es tan irreal como ella.

La lista que aquí os presento es totalmente subjetiva, como aquella de las Screwball Comedies. Más que fijarme en las reglas del melodrama, uso mi propio criterio para hallar películas de este tipo. Si al ver el "The End" en la pantalla me sale un ahogado suspiro y de mi boca emana una frase gutural clave, es un melodrama. La frase es: "Jodó, menudo dramón"

En serio, al igual que hice con las Screwball, dejo aquí una lista de puntos clave en el melodrama, porque si pusiera un estudio más concienzudo podríamos entrar en debate y no me apetece, que es agosto. Además, creo que está claro que en una filmografía tan larga habrá algunas películas con más carga melodramática que otras. Así ha quedado y así se ha hecho. Ya digo que es subjetiva.

No están todas las que son (porque si empezamos con Sirk no terminamos) pero sí son todas las que están (creo).

UNO. El melodrama está estructurado a través de un doble reconocimiento: cómo son las cosas y cómo deben ser. En el melodrama, el impulso moral de las historias une estos extremos. DOS. El melodrama siempre está en tensión con otras emociones, sobre todo con la acción: rescates de último minuto, persecuciones y peleas, que aumentan y prolongan el drama. TRES. Con el paso del tiempo, el melodrama ha sido cada vez más influenciado por el realismo. CUATRO. El melodrama está basado en los conflictos y problemas cotidianos: ilegitimidad, esclavitud, lucha de clases, racismo, guerras, el hambre, el Holocausto judío… Todas las injusticias del mundo han sido, alguna vez, melodramatizadas. CINCO. Por más realistas que estén montadas las escenas de acción en un melodrama, la acción está alejada de la realidad. Asimismo, por más viril que sea la acción, ésta no deja de ser melodramática. SEIS. Estructura del melodrama clásico: una serie de vicisitudes que generan simpatía por nuestro héroe y/o víctima, quien se encamina a un clímax que le permite al público reconocer el valor moral del personaje. El clímax puede ser de dos tipos: hacia el paroxismo del drama o hacia el paroxismo de la acción. SIETE. El melodrama de acción (Rambo, por ejemplo) nunca carece de drama; el melodrama puro debe tener algo de acción. OCHO. El melodrama es sacrificio: el héroe adquiere la virtud a través del sufrimiento y del cumplimiento del deber, como en el cine de Griffith. NUEVE. La acción en el melodrama: el sufrimiento del héroe lo lleva a la acción, lo que lo convierte en admirable, como los protagonistas de Norma Rae (1979) o La Lista de Schindler (1993). DIEZ. El melodrama resuelve problemas de legitimidad moral (como en los melodramas bélicos patrioteros). La idea es mostrar lo que es correcto a través del sufrimiento del inocente.
