Sinopsis: La acción transcurre en un pequeño pueblo costero del norte de Irlanda. Un grupo de solteros de diferentes edades, encabezados por el extravagante carnicero (Ian Hart) decide publicar un anuncio en el Miami Herald invitando a chicas americanas a una fiesta tradicional esperando así encontrar esposa entre ellas. Comentario: Deliciosa comedia irlandesa sobre la guerra de sexos, que dibuja un divertido cuadro de costumbres de la (aparentemente) apacible vida cotidiana en un pequeño pueblo costero. Cuenta con un espléndido guión, salpicado de un fino y estimulante sentido del humor (sin sal gorda, pero con algunos toques de pimienta), un gran reparto y una bellísima banda sonora.
Irish lads send an ad to the Miami Herald inviting fit and enticing women, between the ages of 20 and 21, to live in their isolated Donegal village. The whole town knows about the ad, and it sharpens everyone's sense of the opportunities for happiness already at hand. Kate, a publican with a young daughter, is separating from her husband and catches the eye of a bachelor sheep farmer. Kieran the butcher realizes that his assistant Siobhan is comely, and then he discovers she's fiery as well. Ollie sends off for Dutch skin magazines that the village postmistress won't release to him. The men, and women, find counsel in their movie-loving priest. Will anyone answer the ad? (IMDb)
In a small Irish village where herding sheep is still one of the major industries, the largely male, unmarried population has grown dissatisfied with their lot in life; when a shipping error sends the wrong film to the local movie house, the citizens are treated to a racy item from the United States. The movie is cut short by the village priest, but it plants an idea in a few of the men: America is overflowing with beautiful women, so why not get a few of them to come to Ireland? Pooling their resources, a group of men places personal ads in an American newspaper in hopes of luring a few ladies away from life in the States for the more rustic pleasures of the Irish countryside.
