Sinopsis: Oliver Twist, así como el resto de los chicos del orfanato, se están muriendo de hambre, y deciden jugarse quién de ellos pedirá más comida. Oliver es el elegido. Tachado de ser problemático por el Sr. Bumble, el bedel y por el director, Oliver es ofrecido como aprendiz a cualquiera que lo quiera contratar. Tras ser condenado a limpiar chimeneas, Oliver se convierte en aprendiz del enterrador Sowerberry. Pero Oliver se pelea con uno de los chicos del enterrador, y decide escapar e irse a Londres. En las afueras de la ciudad, cansado y hambriento, Oliver conoce a Artful Dodger, quien le ofrece un lugar donde hospedarse en Londres. AMG Synopsis: Director Roman Polanski gives one of Charles Dickens' best-loved stories a new and dynamic interpretation in this period drama. Oliver Twist (Barney Clark) is a young orphan in Victorian England who has been sent to a dank workhouse run by the miserly Mr. Bumble (Jeremy Swift) when it is learned there is no one to care for him. When Oliver dares to ask for more gruel, he is sent away to live with an undertaker, who treats him poorly. Preferring life on the streets to the treatment he's been receiving, Oliver runs away to London, where he falls in with the Artful Dodger (Harry Eden), a youthful pickpocket. The Artful Dodger is one of a gang of young thieves overseen by Fagin (Ben Kingsley), a paternal but sinister criminal mastermind. While Oliver finds a home of sorts with Fagin and his young cohorts, he also falls into a dangerous life made all the more threatening by the presence of Fagin's menacing overlord, Bill Sykes (Jamie Foreman). Oliver Twist was Polanski's first feature film after enjoying a major career resurgence following the international success of his Oscar-winning World War II drama The Pianist.

AMG Review: The mother of all Victorian orphan epics gets remade for the umpteenth time, as Oliver Twist goes under the lens of acclaimed filmmaker Roman Polanski for this 2005 release. Polanski's update of the classic Dickens tale is highly competent, yet wholly unnecessary -- which may have more to do with the era of its release than any objective judgment of its cinematic worth. By 2005, straightforward period pieces had lost their box-office clout, so a tale retold many times -- and not that differently this time from the others -- seemed to have little raison d'être. Almost across the board, critics lauded Oliver Twist, but taken as the follow-up to Polanski's best director win for The Pianist (2002), it can't help but fall short in both urgency and distinction. As ever, Polanski is excellent at establishing a period design and giving it a rough and dark authenticity. No character embodies this commitment to detail more than Ben Kingsley as the cretin Fagin, uglied up with makeup, prosthetics, and a creaky lowlife's accent. The performances of Kingsley and several others are a credit to the production. But two key performances prevent Oliver Twist from being as effective as it could have been. As the murderer Bill Sykes, Jamie Foreman is more mean than frightening, while Barney Clark is too impassive to make much of an impact in the title role. It's a good metaphor for the film on the whole. While beyond reproach technically, Oliver Twist can't make a thematic argument for its own existence by bringing any relevant new interpretations to the forefront. Dickens enthusiasts and the dwindling period piece crowd will no doubt find Polanski's update worthy, but as for any future attempts to film the definitive Oliver Twist -- please, sir, we don't need any more.

Lo cierto es que los ripeos de Callioped no son nada malos, pero tienen sobredosis de sharpening. El DVDRip VOSE de c00ldude es ciertamente estupendo, y no parece que este de Callioped lo mejore.

En FH ya se ha comentado el tema del "oversharped" (incremento artificial del contraste de la imagen) de los ripeos de CaLLiOpeD.
La ventaja es que se ven muy bien en una televisión convencional (que es la que yo tengo); aunque probablemente las imágenes resulten demasiado chillonas en una de pantalla plana. Como lo habitual en las primeras es subirles el contraste y que en la configuración inicial de las segundas éste sea alto, bastaría con bajarlo para contrarrestar el efecto.
Las TVs no pueden proporcionar la misma imagen (brillo, contraste y color, especialmente el negro) de la proyección de un film en 35mm, por no hablar de los artefactos que se emplean en la digitalización y, sobre todo, de la sustancial diferencia que supone ver la película bien acompañado en la fila de los mancos de un buen cine.
Por contra, los ripeos de CaLLiOpeD suelen traer unos subtítulos bastante defectuosos, salvo los turcos (supongo), probablemente porque no dominan otros idiomas y sincronizan lo que tienen más a mano. Por otro lado, suelen tener "packed bitstream" y, en muchas ocasiones, matriz Mpeg Custom, pero lo rimero se soluciona fácilmente con MpegModifier y las matrices suelen ser compatible con los reproductores DvdDivX (que no se atascan, aunque la imagen se resiente en los negros).

Y, en efecto, la versión DVDRip de C00LdUdE es magnífica.

PD. El audio turco va en un archivo independiente; el "assistant" incluye varios scripts para cortar la película y poder grabarla en un Dvd-R y/o unir el audio para montar un Dual exótico.

Comparando las capturas, creo que la versión FAiTH no está saturada como el ripeo de CaLLiOpeD, y como la duración es similar, supongo que encajarán los subtítulos en castellano (si es que alguien los tiene por ahí, porque no he podido bajarla y sincronizarlos).
