Sinopsis: Irlanda, siglo VIII. Un niño celta presencia la muerte de sus padres y el rapto de su hermana durante una incursión vikinga. Veinte años después se dispone a culminar su venganza y llega a Islandia, donde están exiliados los miembros de la partida, enfrentando a los jefes de los dos clanes mientras los extermina uno a uno.

When Gest (Jacob Thor Einarsson) was just a little boy in Ireland, his pacifist parents were brutally murdered and his sister kidnapped by Viking raiders, and now that he has come of age, he travels to Iceland and traces the helmeted rogues to their encampment. After he arrives, he cunningly kills off several higher-ranking warriors which causes the two brothers who lead the band to quarrel among themselves, at first believing that these deaths were due to the anger of their gods. Their internal dissention gives Gest needed opportunities to kill isolated men one by one but also leaves his sister with a dilemma because she has married the surviving leader and her loyalties are torn ( Eleanor Mannikka, AMG).

La "trilogía vikinga" de Hrafn Gunnlaugsson es una curiosa muestra de cine histórico de aventuras basada en los esquemas del western y el cine de samurais, que tiene como referencias principales el cine de Kurosawa y el spaguetti-western de Sergio Leone [la "trilogía del dólar": Por un puñado de dólares (1964), La muerte tenía un precio (1965) y El bueno, el feo y el malo (1966)]. La primera entrega de la serie, El vuelo del cuervo, es un remake de Por un puñado de dólares (1964), remake a su vez de Yojimbo (Akira Kurosawa, 1961), inspirada en "Cosecha roja" de Dashiell Hammet.------------------------------------------------------------
