Plot Synopsis: Under the Volcano follows the final day in the life of self-destructive British consul Geoffrey Firmin (Albert Finney, in an Oscar-nominated tour de force) on the eve of World War II. Sería interesante saber si alguien se anima a ripear los extras del segundo DVD de Criterion que incluyen una entrevista con Huston (audio) y un magnífico documental sobre Malcolm Lowry:

Disc two offers a new video interview with Jacqueline Bisset (18 min), a 1984 audio interview with John Huston conducted by French film critic Michel Ciment (30 min.), “Notes from Under the Volcano” (59 min), done on the set of the film, with excellent interviews with Huston. Rounding out the set is the documentary “Volcano: An Inquiry into the Life and Death of Malcolm Lowry” (99 min.) which is a writer-specific piece from 1976 that goes into the author’s life (guess what, there’s parallels).

La película no es fácil de entender, especialmente si no se ha leído la novela: una de las cien obras capitales de este siglo. Ideal para ser vista en estos días, que en algunos paises latinoamericanos es casi un triple feriado: 1 N (Todos Santos) 2 N (Todos Difuntos) 3 N (Todos mamados) A Huston le fascinaba México y esta película es un canto de amor. Magníficos Albert Finney e Ignacio López Tarso.

Yo me la bajé de KG, e incluía esos extras, exceptuando la entrevista a John Huston. Si me tenéis paciencia os los pondré en un plazo máximo de un mes, si no me gana la mano alguien o alguno. Sobre subs para los extras, no sabría deciros si el pack los incluye. En castellano seguro que no, obvio.

¡Como echaba de menos un ripeo de esta película!.

Como Vertigo, también recomendaría leer el libro antes de su visionado; no por resultar una película compleja, a mi entender, sino por su ... ¿mayor linealidad? con respecto a la novela de Lowry. En todo caso, por lo que recuerdo, el director lo mejora [el ambiente, la sensación de... (nada de spoilers)] sobre todo en la segunda mitad.

Una pena que no haya subs en castellano, de todas formas los originales harán buena falta para entender al señor Firmin la mayor parte del tiempo.

Y con respecto al libro hace varios años que me lo compré y aún no lo he leído.
