Synopsis: At the time of its production, To Each His Own Cinema represented the latest arrival in a tidal wave of internationally oriented omnibus films, with no official relation between them but all produced within a few years of one another. Few could claim a roster of talent comparable to this one, which boasts contributions by 33 of the most acclaimed directors in world cinema,
each responsible for three minutes of celluloid. Gilles Jacob, president of the Cannes Festival, devised the project as a "gift" to commemorate the festival's 60th birthday, and recruited many Golden Palm winners in the directorial selection process. Simply put, Jacob asked each director to express, cinematically, his or her "state of mind of the moment as inspired by the motion picture theater." Featured filmmakers include Joel and Ethan Coen; Olivier Assayas; Atom Egoyan; Walter Salles; Lars von Trier; Nanni Moretti; Roman Polanski; Theo Angelopoulos; Chen Kaige; Andrei Konchalovsky; and many, many others. Many of the initial entries (by Angelopoulos and others) involve the neglect or disrepute into which contemporary cinema, as a collective viewing experience, has fallen; a few segments, such as the Coen Brothers' short, about a cowboy (Josh Brolin) who attempts to determine which movie he should go see in sunny Los Angeles, employ a light and whimsical approach. At the other end of the spectrum sits David Cronenberg's piece -- a brutal short in which he prepares to commit a very public and graphic suicide on television before millions of viewers. Other highlights include Moretti -- offering a typically witty divertissement on what cinema means -- and Zhang Yimou, who lyrically depicts the gathering of numerous rural children for a screening at a movie theater.

Me baje este film hace unos días y ya lo vi. Es importante aclarar que no está el cortometraje de los Coen en este DVD-Rip, no tengo idea de por qué. Los demás sí están, y la mayoría me parecieron buenos (algunos MUY buenos, como los de Nanni Moretti, Ken Loach, Lars von Trier, Cronenberg, Kitano, Chan Kaige, Claude Lelouch, Zhang Yimou, Tsai Ming-liang y varios etcéteras), exceptuando a los que siempre hacen cosas de mi desagrado (Van Sant, González Iñárritu, Gitai, Salles, etcétera).

Para mi decepcionante, alvo algunos pocos directores los demas poco imaginativos y repetitivos.

flojita, estoy de acuerdo con jozete... me quedo con NaNi Moretti (y eso que no me suele gustar), Zhang Yimou, Polanski, Wong Kar Wei (imprescindible) y Chen Kaige... mayoria asiática es curioso, ¿tendrán mejor pillada la estrucutura narrativa del corto?...
Como segunda división podríamos poner a Kitano, Iñarritu, Kiarostami y poco más... el resto son de derribo...

Ya los he visto y van bien para los links publicados, además están completos, con las partes que faltaban.

Como yo lo veo, no creo que sea "flojito" para nada.. es más, algunos me parecen muy buenos (Kitano, Nani Moretti, kaurismaki, Egoyan, Claude Lelouch, kiorastami, Walter Selles, Chen kaige y Lars Von Trier los mejores para mi gusto).. aunque para gustos, colores.

Hombre.. a mí me parece una recopilación excepcional; un caleidoscopio del cine actual con una riqueza de dirección, interpretativa y visual como pocos recopilatorios al uso se han hecho. Puede que algunos sketches decepcionen, o que se espere algo más de ellos, pero en conjunto es para no perderselo. Además, en unos tiempos en que las multisalas han convertido al cine en una multinacional más, donde muchas veces poco importa la calidad de lo que se ofrece al espectador al estar por encima la rentabilidad del marketing invertido por las grandes productoras (vease norteamericanas, japonesas o cualquier otra), es una buena apología de los cines populares ya en extinción. Un hallazgo imprescindible con infinidad de rasgos para apreciar; unos en clave de humor, otros como recuerdos del pasado del cine y otros muy personales de cada director.. Desde mi punto de vista, imprescindible.. pero si los entendidos dicen que es poco imaginativo, repetitivo, "flojito" o "de derribo", prefiero dejarlo en una cuestión de gustos.. últimamente anda perdido mi "otro-yo" beligerante
