lo que descuarda el hilo no es el ancho de las fotos en sí, eso ya no psa, sino que estén en un quote, pero bueno, en el Opera le das a "fit to window width" y listo

Formados en Melbourne, Australia, en 1993 por iniciativa del violinista de formación clásica Warren Ellis, Dirty Three facturan un pop rock instrumental melancólico y evocador, austero y emocionante.Con una formación atípica compuesta por violín (Ellis), batería (Jim White) y guitarra (Mick Turner), en sus composiciones es el violín, en lugar de la voz humana, el que dibuja las líneas melódicas. Con elementos del folk melódico, del rock y de la música clásica del siglo XX, Dirty Three han logrado consolidar a lo largo de sus ya casi quince años de historia un sonido particular y reconocible. La capacidad de emocionarnos sin necesidad de efectismos y hacer de la austeridad una de sus armas más potentes los acercan a otro trío atípico, Low. Ambos grupos han compartido escenario en más de una ocasión y juntos grabaron un emocionante Ep, “In The Fishtank ” (Konkurrent / Touch And Go, 99), en el que se incluía una versión del tema ‘Down by the River’ de otro mago de la sobriedad, Neil Young. Si en sus primeras grabaciones el trío australiano mostraba su cara más feroz y agresiva, a partir de su cuarto álbum, “Ocean Songs” (Bella Union, -98- ), dieron un giro a su sonido hacia tonalidades más melancólicas y estructuras más abiertas con gran influencia del folk. ------------- The music Dirty Three create, as an all-instrumental drums/guitar/violin combo, is all mood-- dusky, slow-burning, melancholy. It's music for those times you find yourself awake at 4:30 in the morning, still drinking but not getting any drunker, waiting for the sun to rise since there's "no point in going to bed now anyway." Ocean Songs, the band's third album, initially seems monochromatic in comparison with their turbulent 1996 release Horse Stories, with the band playing each song at the same heel-dragging tempo. It can be wearying, but the dynamic subtleties and amazing instrumental interplay begin to shine through after repeated listens. The ironic thing about Ocean Songs is how dry it initially sounds. The hollow rattle of Jim White's brushed drums against Mick Turner's crusty guitar strum conjures up images of sand and jagged rock, but it's Warren Ellis' swooning violin, most often the centerpiece of Dirty Three's sound, which makes the sonic desert bloom. While Ellis may create most of the dramatic atmosphere, Turner's understated guitar parts provide an expert complement, and White doesn't keep a beat so much as provide percussive ornamentation to the mournful melodies. Despite any complaints about the obvious limits to Dirty Three's sound, Ocean Songs succeeds tremendously on the terms it lays for itself. He vuelto a salir de pesca por el Soulseek y he encontrado esto. La calidad de la grabación no es buena, pero se deja ver. El concierto no está entero, faltan los bises. Era el cumpleaños de Springsteen y el público no para de hacerle regalos, hasta hay quien le lleva una tarta (¿quién se lleva una tarta a un concierto?). Springsteen interpreta "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" un 20 de septiembre. Pero es igual. Esta grabación no circulaba por la mula y es una nueva manifestación de que el paleto santo de New Jersey fue durante los 70's una de las mayores atracciones en directo de toda la historia del rock. Lejos del rollito familiar y de las canciones de bomberos, esta hora de video contiene momentos de entrega, emoción y clásicos populares (incluída una fantástica versión de los Animals).

Aprovecho este hilo para decir que hace una semana tuve a bien ver a la Sun Ra Arkestra en Marbella. Buen concierto, aunque parece que el paso del tiempo (o el paso por la Costa) los ha suavizado bastante y se han pasado al bop tradicional. De free ni rastro, oiga.

Como hace tiempo que no escribo, también me permito hacer mención (ya que, de seguro, habré sido el único) a mi paso por el Gouveia Art Rock Festival, extraordinario festival de rock progresivo que se celebra anualmente en una pequeña localidad de la Serra da Estrela portuguesa y que me permitió ver en directo a Peter Hamill, Amon Düül II, Present, Taal, Anekdoten, Alamaailman Vasarat y Matthew Parmenter. Glorioso.
