Due April 11 via Quarterstick, the 11-track "Garden Ruin" was produced by J.D. Foster, who has worked with everyone from Dwight Yoakam and Marc Ribot to Nancy Sinatra and Alejandro Escovedo.
"The songs have that moodiness and ambience, but there's also some more electric, rockin' numbers," group member Joey Burns told Billboard.com this summer of the new material.
Indeed, there are a few more overt rock moments on "Garden Ruin" than usual, particularly on the sprightly "Letter to Bowie Knife" and the Crazy Horse-tinged second half of the six-minute album closer "All Systems Red."
But for the most part, the album boasts another helping of the group's signature desert rock sound, from the hushed, largely acoustic "Yours and Mine" to the soulful, string-flecked "Bisbee Blue."
"Garden Ruin" is the follow-up to 2003's "Feast of Wire," which debuted at a career-best No. 23 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. The Calexico/Iron & Wine album, "In the Reins" (Overcoat) was even more successful, opening at No. 2 on the Heatseekers tally and No. 12 on Top Independent Albums.
The two acts' supporting tour will wrap tomorrow (Dec. 16) in Atlanta and will resume in Europe next spring. To close out the year, Calexico will play two shows with Mariachi Luz de Luna and Nick Luca on Dec. 22 in Los Angeles and Dec. 30 in Tucson. Three showcase gigs are also on tap for Jan. 24 in New York, Jan. 26 in Los Angeles and Jan. 29 in San Francisco.
As previously reported, Burns and Calexico mate John Convertino guest on Neko Case's upcoming Anti- album, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood," due March 7.</td></tr></table></td></tr></table>

Tokyo, Japan's Mono are a peculiar group. While most bands offer up their sincerest and most genuine recordings in their infancy and spend the rest of their careers trying desperately to rediscover their youthful energy, Mono's trajectory is quite the opposite. Their early recordings were a visceral homage to their past and present heroes; documents of a band boasting an impressive symphony of sound in spite of their relatively small line-up. These days, Mono have become one of the most passionately aggressive rock bands of the last decade, with their soaring crescendos, titanic sheets of distortion and dark melodies executed with the delicacy and precision of a paper crane.</td></tr></table></td></tr></table>

Comentarios:</td></tr></table><table width=100% border=0 cellpadding=5 cellspacing=1 bgcolor=C7C4D6><tr><td width=100%>The seventh album of Dominique A is entitled L'Horizon. It will leave in March, two years after All will be like front. Such as one already could hear it, it perhaps acts of most spectacular of his discs: opened on a history of whaler in Groenland, the album walks in the truck of a round, in a town of edge of sea, in a boat at sea, the street of a small city at the time of childhood... Dominique A dares the romantic one, the escape, the incarnation of characters who for once do not resemble to him all. Perhaps this is not a chance if, precisely, this turn is accompanied by a change in interpretation: from a few years, and in particular its concerts in solo, Dominique A "releases" the voice more and more; and, here, it reaches with a singular lyricism, at the same time ignited and subjected to its melody writing very selected. The instrumentation is at the same time very acoustic and sometimes opulent: two coppers, of the guitars dry very ahead, of the pianos at the height character, of rhythmic matt, much of space in the sound recording. By there, the atmosphere of L'Horizon slices with the précautionneuse elegance of All will be like front. With this album, it breaks with EMI, its house of discs since the Small cavity, its first disc, in 1992. Because Dominique A passes to independence: The Horizon will leave to Olympic, the label of the producer of its spectacles, who already signed 26 Pinel and Françoiz Breut. To its publication, it once again will be neighbourly at the head of the vats with Miossec, which must him also leave its new album in March. </td></tr></table></td></tr></table>

When asked about what the track was about Waynes answer was:
I was playing electric guitar, Michael was on fuzzwah bass and Steven was on the drumkit and we stumbled upon this druggy prog-rock riff and stuttery, funky beat.
It was like Black Sabbath getting mashed up with Sly and the Family Stone or Stevie Wonder, and it sent us off in a wonderful new direction. The idea of a magic wand and magic powers occurred to me while watching a homeless guy in Oklahoma City. He was, I believe, Vietnamese, and had a cool looking wizardly beard and mustache and he carried a long stick, which he used as a kind of cane-weapon. And one day I saw him fighting an “imagined” enemy and the long stick became (as best I could tell) a kind of magic wand that made his invisible foe retreat. I mean... it seemed to give him a confidence that allowed him to defeat his hallucinations...and at first I thought “how sad...he believes this old stick is saving him”... but the more I thought about it, the more I envied him in a way...for the evil manifestations of his mind he invented a sparkling sorcerer’s baton to lead his psychic revolution...yes!!...
And so we delved into a kind of radical protest rock mentality...We sing, “We got the power now, motherfuckers, that’s where it belongs”, but I believe it’s cosmically empowering - not actually empowering. In the song, we rail against the greedy, corrupt evil beings who are in control and trying to enslave us... But our rebellion is simply to fight back - we have no solutions.
This is the follow up album to the very well recieved, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots released back in 2002.

In an interview with Pitchfork yesterday, frontman Jason Lytle revealed that Just Like the Fambly Cat, due out May 9 on V2, will be the last Grandaddy album, and that the band has no plans to tour.
"We've seen an erosion happening," Lytle said. "I use the word ‘erosion' in the most natural way I possibly can. It's not entirely such a bad thing. We have just, throughout the years, always looked at every album coming out as ‘Wow we've got another album, now what?' So that's still going on right now, it's just that it's a lot different. We're not jumping on that big rock n roll conveyor belt that happens when the album's done.
"Everybody has been set free to pursue whatever it is they want to pursue, whether it be amateur poker playing, or [becoming] veterinarians, or working in a hot dog stand."
While Lytle will continue making music, he has no plans to use the Grandaddy name for something it's not (see: INXS, Queen, the Doors, etc.) "I think myself and the rest of the band hold that [name] pretty sacred," he said. "It definitely won't be this random assembly of crap shot players. There are plenty of people who are capable of standing up there and executing the songs. But it wouldn't be comfortable for anyone."
He added, "For whoever gives a shit, they can rest assured that it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's no sadder than...I'm likening it to the natural crumbling of canyon walls. It can be sped up or done in by artificial forces. I just think we saw the opportunity to bring it to an end, to do it and still remain friends."
As for Lytle's next step, well, he's not so sure what that will be. "All I'm working on now is regaining a pure appreciation for just playing music, just sitting and playing music. It seems to have been attached to and saddled by a lot of stuff. It's getting fun again.
"I don't intend on ever stopping. I've actually tried to stop a bunch of times, but it's not really possible. Sometimes I hate it so much, because it's something that fatigues me. I'm going to do something, but I have no idea what."
Just Like the Fambly Cat, with its sweeping, fuzzed-out soundscapes and hearty guitar crunch serving as a fitting epitaph for the band. (Pitchfork - Amy Phillips)</td></tr></table></td></tr></table>
