Sinopsis:
(FILMAFFINITY)
Lewis made some 40 features, all but one of them B-movies. They were genre pieces, often westerns. This enjoyable programmer came at the end of the period and is a rather melancholy work about a cavalry officer (Scott) accused of desertion. In an effort to redeem himself he volunteers to bring General Custer's body back after the Battle of Little Big Horn. Produced by Brown who with Scott made the wonderful Budd Boetticher westerns, this too is economical and original - especially in its acknowledgment that Custer's 'heroism' was a result of egotism as well as patriotism. A rare use of colour for Lewis." – Channel 4
--------------------
7th Cavalry is one of the “other” Ranown westerns produced by Harry Joe Brown and starring Randolph Scott. If you can’t have Budd Boetticher in the directing chair, Joseph H. Lewis isn’t too bad of a choice. This film builds some nice tension in its short running time. It also appears to be shot on the same location and set as Anthony Mann’s The Last Frontier. Lewis made many superior B-films as a director but for some reason his westerns don’t seem to get talked about as much as his noirs. Too bad, because they are a pleasure to watch.
