Dos cazadores de recompensas a la caza del mismo hombre deciden unir sus fuerzas para intentar encontrarlo juntos, aunque las motivaciones de ambos resultarán completamente diferentes. Spaguetti-Western, uno de los mayores éxitos del cine español de todos los tiempos -en coproducción con Italia y Alemania-. Su título original (Per qualche dollaro in più, For a Few Dollars More) ya sugiere que es la continuación natural de "Por un puñado de dólares" (Per un pugno di dollari, 1964), dirigida también por Leone un año antes (FILMAFFINITY).
A caccia dell'Indio capo di un'agguerrita banda, sul quale pende la taglia di ventimila dollari, si mettono due individui intenzionati a intascare il premio: il Monco, giovane e audace pistolero, e il Colonnello, un uomo maturo che studia ed esegue le sue imprese con freddezza. Giunti entrambi a El Paso, dopo momenti di reciproca diffidenza e constatata in un singolare duello l'identica capacità, i due si accordano per l' impresa. Il Monco si fa accogliere tra i membri della banda ed il Colonnello agisce all'esterno. Ma non tutto va secondo i loro piani e, scoperti, devono agire frontalmente contro l'Indio ed i suoi. Trovano un'occasione favorevole nell'ingordigia dello stesso capo che li libera allo scopo di far scomparire il folto stuolo di pretendenti alla divisione del bottino asportato dalla banca di El Paso. I due pistoleri però, dopo aver fatto piazza pulita, si incontrano con l'Indio che viene ucciso dal Colonnello desideroso di vendicare la morte del fratello. Al Monco rimarrà la taglia dato che il socio si ritiene pago della vendetta (Cinematografo).
AMG Synopsis: This pulse-pounding follow-up to Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars brings back Clint Eastwood as the serape-clad, cigar-chewing "Man With No Name." Engaged in an ongoing battle with bounty hunter Col. Douglas Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef), the Man joins forces with his enemy to capture homicidal bandit Indio (Gian Maria Volontè). Both the Eastwood and Van Cleef characters are given understandable motivations for their bloodletting tendencies, something that was lacking in A Fistful of Dollars. In both films, however, the violence is raw and uninhibited -- and in many ways, curiously poetic. Leone's tense, tight close-ups, pregnant pauses, and significant silences have since been absorbed into the standard spaghetti Western lexicon; likewise, Ennio Morricone's haunting musical score has been endlessly imitated and parodied. For a Few Dollars More was originally titled Per Qualche Dollaro in Più; it would be followed by the last and best of the Man with No Name trilogy, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
AMG Review: Produced between 1964 and 1966, the films in director Sergio Leone's Man with No Name trilogy -- A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly -- were not released in America until 1967. The rapid succession of releases belied Leone's significant growth between each installment. Though A Fistful of Dollars was skillful and original, the production values were notoriously cheap and the characters were not fully realized. For a Few Dollars More improves on just about every aspect of the previous film, honing the mythic quality of the players. Leone elevates his style to another level; his operatic vision is in full flower here. Though clearly performing in the same minimalist style, Clint Eastwood significantly masters the subtleties of his gritty, nihilistic character. Watch for famed German actor Klaus Kinski as the hunchback who has a match struck on his neck by Lee Van Cleef.
