Another film from Naruse. The quality isn't as great as Yearning but unlike that film, this one does have English subtitles. This rip comes from a Hong Kong TV broadcast sent to me from a good e-friend, Glynford. All thanks should go to him.

Unfortunately, there isn't much written about the film outside of Slant Magazine's http://www.slantmagazine.com/film/film_ ... sp?ID=1896 but I provided some thoughts on my blog http://cinematalk.wordpress.com/2008/02 ... rain-1956/.
The main feature itself takes up only 91 minutes of the rip's two and half hour running time. Commercials and another film follows. There was simply no way to get rid of them.

SINOPSIS
the greatest shock of Sudden Rain comes when Ryotaro Namiki (Shuji Sano) declares to his wife Fumiko (Setsuko Hara) that she has no dreams. For those familiar with Hara's typically incandescent screen presence this is less of an insult than pure blasphemy, though it's all to director Mikio Naruse's subversive point.
