Sinopsis: Originally released in England as The Way to the Stars, Johnny in the Clouds is the story of how the Battle of Britain affected the lives of combatants and civilians alike. Terence Rattigan's screenplay concentrates on three groups of people: An American pilot and his wife, a doomed British officer with a wife and child, and a young couple who plan to marry despite the precariousness of wartime romances. Most of the action takes place at an air base and the neighboring village, where the private citizens react to rationing and other restrictions with various degrees of nobility and selfishness. The American title of this film is derived from the poem "Johnny in the Clouds," recited in tribute to the decease British airman; the U.S. version, which was released after the War, includes a prologue set in the deserted air base, with the bulk of the film offered as a flashback.

Una pista abandonada de la Inglaterra rural se convierte en base de mando de las fuerzas aliadas en las islas. Los estadounidenses llegan a formar parte de la Royal Air Force y ayudarán a cambiar el rumbo de la guerra. Sin embargo, la convivencia entre ingleses y americanos no siempre será fácil. Entre las relaciones tirantes están las de los amigos británicos David y Peter, quienes ven que su unión puede quedar amenazada con la intrusión de Johnny, as de la aviación estadounidense.

Gran reparto para un film bastante apañado, que mantiene el interés en todo momento. Fue la primera película en el que Trevor Howard (Breve encuentro) salió acreditado. La entonces jovencita Jean Simmons, de 16 años, tiene un pequeño papel de cantante (DeCine21)

IMDb. In 1940, Flying Officer Peter Penrose is attached to an RAF unit straight out off flight training and a grand total of 15 hours in the air. He's as green as you would expect but finds his commanding officer, Flt. Lt. David Archdale to be understanding and supportive. He soon becomes a full-fledged member of the squadron, becoming a more than capable pilot and enjoying the camaraderie that comes from men who face death together. He also becomes interested in a young woman, Iris Winterton, who lives at the local hotel with her somewhat strict maiden aunt. Archdale gets married to the hotel's manageress, but tragedy strikes when he is killed in an air raid. As a result, Penrose isn't sure he wants to make a commitment to Iris. Over the years, there are many changes. The American Air Corps arrives in 1942 with the inevitable clash of cultures and Penrose is taken off flying duties to become a controller. David Archdale's widow forms a close friendship with one of the Americans and by 1944, the tide turns in favor of the allies leaving Penrose to reevaluate his feelings.
