Synopsis: Set on the Bihar-Bengal border, where Marwari businessmen - a powerful Hindi-dialect community of entrepreneurs much disliked throughout India - and Rajputs of warrior caste (from Rajasthan) have both settled. The central character of Narsingh (Soumitra Chatterjee), is a disillusioned, frequently drunken Rajput reduced in status to an ill-educated taxi driver. Proud and hot-tempered, with a passion for his 1930s Chrysler, Narsingh is offered work transporting tins of ghee for Sukhanram, a shady merchant, and finds himself drawn against his better judgement into trafficking opium. Having failed in everything honest, he has to decide whether or not he will engage in criminal activity to make money.

Abhijan was Ray’s biggest box-office success in his native Bengal, and that success in connecting with a wider mass-audience no doubt is because of a far more melodramatic tone to the story (particularly at the end) than is usual with Ray and very explicit, even over-determined characterisations. -- Ian Johnston

Los subo a portada junto con el post que ya estaba subido de por la mañana

Recientemente he pinchado varios mkv que hizo elguaxo de películas de Satyajit Ray. Casi todas tienen muy poquitas fuentes aunque poco a poco voy sumando megas. Esta en particular se me ha quedado atascada por la mitad más o menos y rara vez veo una fuente completa, sólo hay otras dos y están como yo. Pues eso, que si alguno la tiene por ahí guardada y la puede meter en el incoming una temporada se agradece
