Review

Ingmar Bergman's great 1972 film is about the elemental things: death and dying, sex, injury, repression, and the body as a fount of sustenance. No wonder Bergman chooses to focus on female characters, in this case three sisters--one of whom is dying of tuberculosis--and a maid who is the only one capable of caring for the ill woman. The film is noteworthy for many reasons, not least of all an interesting camera style that marries beautiful imagery with an anxious frame. That tension perfectly suits the overlapping psychodramas of the piece, but this is a movie that ultimately pushes beyond the particulars of these characters' virtues or neuroses to a greater mystery, one that somehow sustains our existence while slowly taking it away. Bergman's best film certainly deserves the best quality. This new version is ripped from the Criterion Collection, and is much better quality than the PostX rip released here
The audio bitrate is a bit low, sorry about that, this was my first rip long time ago (hardly noticeable though). Other than that, enjoy!

As mentioned in my original post, I am aware of this flaw. However, as also mentioned in my post, this is hardly noticeable in the movie.
Those familiar with the movie know a significant part of the movie is silent, there is hardly any music (which demands a high bitrate). For the voices, the bitrate is enough, without any audible loss.

So do as you deem fit

Because of the DivX3 codec, and probably some filters used, the image quality is less sharp and the red shades (predominant in the film) slightly different than what they really look like on the dvd. (see above screens)

I'm kind of a grp-rls freak myself, always think of grp-rlses as definitive versions of a movie. However, I do make exceptions for movies which look better on the non-grp-rls, or come from a better dvd source (cuz internals are usually pretty rare, suppose they are released at all)


Final note on the quality for downloaders:
Choose this rip if you want the best image, or the PosTX rip if you want the better audio. Just trying to give you an alternative, because this film deserves it. Cheers.
