Sinopsis: El rancho familiar de Catherine "Cat" Balou (Jane Fonda) se ve amenazada por la inminente llegada del ferrocarril. La joven maestra de escuela intenta oponerse a que desaparezcan sus raíces y recurre a Kid Shelleen (Lee Marvin), sólo para descubrir que es el pistolero más borracho de todo el Oeste. Cuando su padre es asesinado por matones a sueldo de la compañía del ferrocarril, ella jura venganza.

Catherine Ballow es una joven de vida ligera que se ve obligada a contratar a un pistolero, interpretado por Lee Marvin. El motivo son las amenazas que está recibiendo su padre por parte de un bandido. Catherine no tarda en darse cuenta de que alguien le ha gastado una mala pasada, y que se ha equivocado de tipo. El pistolero que ha contratado es un bravucón que no le inspira ninguna confianza, y que se gasta en alcohol el dinero de su paga. Aunque Catherine intenta convencerle de que debe proteger a su padre, éste es asesinado. Entonces Catherine, una mujer de armas tomar, decide espabilar a su pistolero y tomarse la justicia por su mano contra el asesino de su padre.

Un atractivo western que cuenta con la cautivadora presencia de Jane Fonda. Tiene acción y algunos buenos golpes de humor. Esta vez el siempre brillante comodín secundario Lee Marvin obtuvo un Oscar por uno de los personajes que mejor se le daba, el de borrachín (DeCine21).

Cat(herine) Balou's family farm is being threatened by the Rail Road. She sends for Kid Shelleen, finding him to be the drunkest gunfighter in the west. When her father is killed by the rail road magnate's gunman, she vowes to fight on. Shelleen manages to ride sideways in several scenes, while minstrels sing the ballad of Cat Ballou in between scenes (IMDb).
