Cult figure and B-movie auteur Joseph H. Lewis directed this taut exercise in film noir. Julia Ross (Nina Foch), an American receiving medical treatment in London, finds herself short on money and takes a job as secretary for Mrs. Hughes (May Whitty), the matriarch of a large estate. Julie meets Mrs. Hughes' son Ralph (George Macready), a mysterious gentleman with a facial scar, shortly before eating lunch and falling into a deep sleep. When she awakes, she's in a different home with a high fence, and everyone around her insists that she's Ralph's wife, just home after a stay in a mental institution. Julia learns that she's being held captive by the family so that she can be murdered; the death will be made to look like a suicide and serve as a cover for the recent death of Ralph's real wife, whom he killed. A panicked Julia desperately tries to contact her boyfriend, Dennis (Roland Varno), one of the only people in England who might be able to help her. My Name Is Julia Ross was one of Lewis' first "prestige" productions; begun as a ten-day B-picture, studio heads were so impressed with the results that they expanded the schedule by eight days to give the picture more polish.

Some sources cite this as an early example of British film noir, which is rather interesting since it is an American production by Wallace MacDonald's B-unit at Columbia and filmed on that lot. Julia Ross (Nina Foch) secures employment, through a rather-noisy employment agency, with a wealthy widow, Mrs. Hughes (Dame May Whitty), and goes to live at her house. Two days later, she awakens in a different house in different clothes and with a new identity. She is told she is the daughter-in-law of Mrs. Hughes and has suffered a nervous breakdown. She soon learns that the son of Mrs. Hughes, Ralph (George Macready), has murdered his wife, disposed of her body and, with his mother's help, plans to pass Julia off as his wife. And then plans to eventually kill her and pass it off as a suicide.

Subtítulos en español en descarga directa por si alguien los necesita para...

Los subtítulos en español son los que había extraido previamente de un ripeo de James Mason (muchas gracias) con los subtítulos incrustados y que había sincronizado para un SATRip. Ahora los he corregido ligeramente y resincronizado para este DVDRip. Diría que el ajuste es casi perfecto .

El doblaje no está sincronizado con este ripeo. Para sincronizar el doblaje en español (por analogía con los subtítulos) probablemente habría que aplicar un "desfase progresivo" desde el inicio de la película (~ +300 ms; es decir, 3 décimas de segundo) hasta el final de la misma (~ +1000 ms; o sea, 1 segundo). Sin comprobar, en todo caso.
