"Nada disimulado remake de la espléndida "El último refugio". (...) Obra grandiosa de un cineasta desesperadamente romántico y enamorado de las imágenes" (Miguel Ángel Palomo: Diario El País)
Outlaw Wes McQueen is sprung from jail to help pull one last railroad job. He doesn't like his new partners - except dance-hall girl Colorado - and anyway fancies Julie Ann newly arrived from the east to set up home with her father. Maybe time to get out. Unfortunately he also has a $10,000 reward on his head, dead or alive (IMDb).
AMG Synopsis: Though not acknowledged by contemporary reviewers, Colorado Territory is a westernized remake of the 1941 crime drama High Sierra. Raoul Walsh, director of the earlier film, returns to helm the remake, doing a grand job on both occasions. Joel McCrea stars in the Humphrey Bogart role, playing a veteran outlaw who hopes to pull off one last, spectacular heist. Virginia Mayo portrays the Ida Lupino counterpart, a "bad" dance-hall girl who proves to be the only person who genuinely cares about McCrea's well-being. As in the earlier film, the climax finds McCrea making a futile bid for escape in the mountains, with tragic consequences. High Sierra was good for at least one more remake, the 1955 Jack Palance-Shelley Winters starrer I Died a Thousand Times.
AMG Review: Western movies certainly got very adult in the immediate post-World War II era and it should come as no surprise that a great many of them, including Colorado Territory, were remakes of earlier gangster films. In fact, in more recent years, the crime thriller has borrowed heavily from the old Westerns as well, the two most American of genres constantly cannibalizing each other. Colorado Territory, which was banned in West Germany as "an example of gangster films which glorify antisocial elements," is a top-notch example of the crossover Western, but for one single, if minor, flaw: the casting of blond Virginia Mayo as the hard-bitten heroine. Not that Mayo doesn't make her tough-as-nails "half-breed" interesting, but her makeup is singularly hard to accept. The result of a union between a Pueblo mother and Yankee father, Mayo's Colorado Carson is positively dipped in heavy brown pancake makeup of the kind the old-timers used to call "bole-Armenia." The effect is ludicrous beyond belief and slightly ruins what is otherwise a stirring, well-directed, and photographed effort with a slam-bang finish fully rivaling that of its predecessor, High Sierra.

Parece que el virus Impulso ha llegado a la casa principal.
